So I [finally] got my Gen 2 762x39 galil pistol that I will be running a lot and I’m looking for a good chest rig for mags. I’m not really up and up on accessories for the AK and AK-like things.

What I want is either a 3 cell double stack or a 5 cell single stack that has the capability to hold 30s and 40s.
I’ve seen a couple that you can attach to a plate carrier but I don’t have a plate carrier yet (still losing weight) so I’m not super worried about that for right now. What I really need is to just hold the mags while moving.

Does anyone run any sort of neat AK mag chest rig?
I should note that I don’t want some Chinese piece of shit, I want a quality American made one if possible.

Get a molle chest rig that you like and add TACO pouches. Fits AK, vz58, M16, FAL all at once. Best mag pouches I have found and used. Made in NC too!

Would it be worth it to go straight to a plate carrier or take the chest rig route in between now and plate carrier you think? Or both

Second @Combat Diver . No downside to a PC without plates. And HSGI makes hi-quality stuff.

I will say, my bro-in-law got an AK chest rig of eBay, cheap as hell, canvas and cotton (do not know where it was made; my bet is China), and the thing is damn indestructible. Reminds me of the old VN-era pre-nylon 782 gear.

Yea that makes sense to just skip the middle man and go to PC and just adjust for use plus then I guess depending on what I’m carrying I can switch out the mags and have the same PC

I'm a big fan of the Ferro Concepts Slickster and Crye Precision JPC with TACOs. - I also have an AK rig from Strike Hard. Beez Combat is another good one for dedicated chest rig.

Finding something specifically for AK mags can be difficult.

I run a HSGI chest rig with tacos. Tacos work with AR, AK and FAL mags. I'd highly recommend.

I found the Vism chest rig for AK fit pretty well and was decent.

Forgot to add that my plate carrier is a 10 yr Paraclete with level IV plates and Level III soft front/rear/side panels. I've used this one almost continuously in Iraq and Afghanistan since 14' and now UAE

I was looking at getting a few of their pouches and I can't for the life of me determine if they come with their HSGI universal clips or not, or if they're purchased separately.

???

I went with the RMA Defense Level IV multi curve...man, I kinda (definitely) wish I spent the extra and got the Level III+ at half the weight.

How often do you wear it and what is the threat level? I wore mine for years in Iraq/Afghanistan where there was a threat. Its all a balancing act. What percentage of AP ammo is available in the US?
