My car horn has gone belly up on my Lexus. I need a new one as I use my horn alot for idiots & road rage incidents, & to scare bicycles out of my way. But I only find 150db range. I want something in the 500-1000 db range. When I honk at those left lane road hogs & want them to wet their britches as well as swerve out of my way. All you texters & bluehairs as well as left lane hogs beware I'm after you. As Daddy always said about his razor sharp shorty bladed knife "I don't want to killem, I just want to slicem up enough that they'll remember me". That way the idiots will be deafened as I roll by cussing em. Where can I find one that loud?
Is there a train junkyard somewhere & can get one of those train horns?

Get one from a '50s pickup, most are 6 volt. :)

I have a set of these waiting for a fun project one day:

You need a train horn.

You’re welcome

A young guy in our county has a lifted 4WD with huge tires and sports one of the train horns.....he had to tie in some type of compressor system to get the full impact but it's a riot when he hits it.

Friend of mine has a lifted Tahoe with one of them damn things on it and she about caused me to poop myself with it

Again

Get one imported from Asia. I used to work in automotive quality assurance. Horns here are torture tested to 100,000 repetitions. In Malaysia, they are tested to one million repetitions.

It's the culture. They are forward looking and don't dwell on the past. This translates to their driving habits. At a merge, it would never occur to them to look over their shoulder to check for oncoming traffic. They simply use their horn to both signal their intention and to assert their right of way - and dominance.

In that respect, it's sort of like geese.

The Nathan K5LA ought to do ya. Only about $1,600 bucks or so.

It's a real train horn, for one.

Here's a good video showing tests of several (20?) train horns, with real dB test equipment and a discussion of how they work, etc.

If it's not DOT then you're opening up yourself to civil court if someone gets hurt due to that horn.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.

I looked into this a while back after a couple of incidents pulling a travel trailer when some blue hair or other shouldn't be driving candidate does something stupid and they act like they can't hear a normal horn.

I think the "legal" limit is 152dB, which is still damned loud. Loud enough to cause someone to spill their coffee if you hit it behind them.

Real train horns like the Air Chimes and such are very expensive even used a basic set will run you $800-1200 bucks for just the horns. The compressor tanks lines and valves will ad greatly to that figure. Search ebay for real semi horns or fish trawler horns still a few hundred bucks but very loud. You will be looking for horns that are heavy cast bronze, brass or aluminum with replacable diaphrams and require at least a 3/8 to 1/2 air line. Any thing else is just a cheap fake.

Put one of these on my bike. Loud a $*$&$^ I too use it for road rage and teaching moments. My biggest gripe, people not moving it along when the light turns green thus being super rude to the people behind them. I will make you yankees feel right at home.

That's the one I have.

I really need a new horn in my little Mazda, the one it came with sounds pathetic.

I have a Stebel 134db horn on my motorcycle. I know that it will cause folks to spill their coffee because I have seen it happen up close and personal.

A guy I rode with a few years back had one he'd just installed. When we stopped for fuel he gave it a "toot" so I could hear it. I thought my ears were going to start bleeding.

The Wolo Bad Boy at AutoZone is a Stebel horn. You can get them for about $35.
