...

I'm hoping in the next 20 to 30 years, I'll be in a position where I can keep money out of my check in the form of cash. If that happens, where are some suitable places to keep it! Do I keep it in a safe where I would keep guns, if I had them? Do I store it in the crawlspace, buried in the yard, a secondary location?

Where?
Let me know what you decide. :D

If you do bury it, make sure you EXACTLY KNOW where you placed it... To the T. I had a buddy fill mason jars up with spare cash and when he needed it (decided to move), he ended up renting a backhoe to dig up the area to locate the jars. This was after spending a few weekends digging where he though he had buried it. If you use mason jars, dehydrate the bills or they will mold.

Maybe a small amount of 'cash' is good, but I'd suggest silver in small coins, booze, bitcoin etc. Diversify because nobody really knows what direction the insanity is going. Maybe even stash quantities of salt, spices, TP and canned goods. Beyond some short term gas and food money cash is useless whe thongs really go south. Firewood, skills and basic goods are more valuable.

Like my food, I don't do just one item. I keep greenbacks, silver, gold,ammo... I try to cover a little of all the bases...
As to where??? I can get to a bit of it in 10 min, 20 min and 45 min... eggs not in one basket deal

Bullets and guns. Money won't be worth anything unless it has a value. Since money has a value now, I am guessing it will be the very last thing people want to replace it with... WTF did I just say... I need to sleep...

Cash money is good in the first few days of bad juju. Storms, chaos etc. thibnk quick gas, food and booze when computers are down. Most stores will still take cash early on. 2 days later you want bullets, food and water.

You’ve seen John Wick, right?

Seriously I wouldn’t bury cash, it is impractical. If they banking system collapses, then money will quickly become worthless, and if the banking system doesn’t collapse then you can get it pretty much whenever you want. I do keep a small amount at the house, the office and the car, but that’s mostly in case I find something I “need.” You can fit quite a bit of cash in a gallon ziplock with some desiccant and it slips easily under the insulation in a corner of the attic, or behind the paper dispenser by the commode, or taped under a sink, or in the duct behind the furnace filter, etc etc. Just don’t put it in the master bedroom area.

I would keep several months worth of cash for living expenses on hand - and by this include things like paying the electric bill. I could see a period of unrest where living off of cash for a few months or weeks would be plausible but if things devolve more than this cash will be worthless.

In this regard money in a bank is "safer" but for two things. One your money is only accessible to you as long as Govco says so as Govco can seize it at any time. I find this to be immensely offensive. Two, cash is nothing but a Federal Reserve Note it isn't even real, it isn't even really yours. It is a complete gimmick and the PTB are even trying to go away with it so that every transaction can be taxed and monitored.

I got some empty pockets you can put some in right now.

If you do bury some in glass jars put some silver in there so you can find them with a metal detector. @htperry has one for sale maybe get it before you bury the jars.

Oh and I still got them empty pockets...

Convert to nickels - bury in crawl space and under chicken coop. Problem solved...

No matter how much we save, none of us can save enough to last forever. The best we can do is gain knowledge that will be useful for survival.

6 months living expenses in cash is desirable simply because we could lose a job or something that leaves us without income. If we allow ourselves to live check to check then in such an event we could be homeless in less than 8 weeks.

Where do you keep $20,000 in cash? I don’t know. I’d ship my pants if I had that much cash.

You know it will be much safer off site. Send it to me and I will ensure it is properly stored.

I dont mind thongs going south... well... depending...

I have heard that you should keep $2K to $5K tops cash on hand... other than that, silver, gold, even copper.... ammo, booze... yes, booze will trade nicely in a SHTF situation... salt, water, and food stuff.

The only thing I mind going South is... YANKEE'S

Furthermore, it is a joke... get it?

When I had cash to keep (something I'd like to get back to at some point) I always used a vacuum sealer to make sure that nothing could make it rot if kept too long (then I had to use it so it wasn't an issue LOL).

I kept it in the same fire proof safe as my guns. Doesn't do any good to have it if it vanishes in a house fire.

other than our safe,
we keep extra cash money in three places:

1. in our "fake" safe. easy to find. easy to carry. $88 in ones and costume jewelry.
2. in our refrigerator. yes, lots of people do this. it's only $700. came in handy in 2000
to pay for scraping 24" of snow out of our driveway. cards and electricity were out.
3. in my father-in-law's storage unit hidden in something something.

It doesn't usually vanish, but it does turn into ashes in a safe with a house fire.

Agreed. Depends on the fire rating of the safe and the length of the fire though.

In gold. Buried.

You could always get a little SS tube and bend over.

Doesn't matter where you keep it outside of thebanking institutions. It'll immediately be subject to civil asset forfeiture if the police ever find out, because the State says so.
