I'm interested in being an apprentice for somebody casting in my area (Winston/Greensboro/High Point). I'd love to give you as much help as possible while learning to get started. I'm pretty flexible on weekends.

I'm over at Lucky13bullets pretty regularly these days. I haven't been in the back but I'd bet that's the cadillac version...I need the Yugo version...
Says Tailhunter is in Stokes. I hunt up there but I'll wait for him to volunteer. :) (no pressure)

Let me know when you're going to L13, with enough lead time, I could meet you there and let you know everything I know in about 5 minutes. :(

next time you are in, if it is a friday or saturday when we got some casting going on, lemme know who you are and i will give you the fiddy cent pants down man hug tour

Don't misunderstand...L13 gives you the fiddy cent.

He'll take that back, and more, for all the components you just can't do without.

It's pretty boring, mostly standing in one spot doing the same thing over and over then waiting for a pot to come back to temp when you refill.
Unless you have two pots going like Starkherz199 which for the price of a 4/20 I should.

I cast my first with a hot plate, a pot, a RCBS ladle, and a Lee mold, then pan lubed, I'll never do the latter again.
I use a Lee 4/20 now, added a NOE and Arsenal mold, still use the hotplate to preheat the molds, lube and size on a lubrisizer, and when I feel like doing something really dumb powder coat.

If the weather stays lame it's possible I'll do some casting Sunday, have a new mold to try. I'm probably a bit of a haul for you given the spontaneous nature of my casting, but I never know when I'll have a couple free hours.

I'd definitely get the Lee 4/20 to start...it just saves so much time. I first learned in Boy Scouts in 1991 during Rifle Shooting merit badge. I still have a 10 pound cast iron pot for backup, and the RCBS laddle...but that takes forever.
The 4/20 pot, a good lead thermometer, and a Lee aluminum mould is a great way to start.
But don't forget YouTube...it has tons of stuff on casting.

This is how hard it is

I admit to watching alot of youtube, but melting 4lbs of range scrap out of my own small berm was a great feeling. Now to tackle the 300lb of wheelweights waiting in the garage
