I know we've got a few nerds floating around other than myself.

I picked up a side gig configuring 10 3560's. All basically identical config. Ports 2-12 are vlan1 and one subnet, ports 13-23 are vlan2 and another subnet. Ports 1 and 24 are uplink/downlink. The end devices ip will be statically assigned. Higher QOS for vlan1. No big deal.

I've never charged for this kind of work as it's always just been part of my job. What's a fair rate for this kinda work?

For what it's worth, the end devices are some kind of high end audio amps. vlan1 is for the digital audio feed, vlan2 is for amp management.

Hahaha I hate it when you have to admit your a nerd huh o_O, but I am a cisco engineer (certified RS and UC) and would say that if you are copying the config on all 10 switches then it really shouldnt be too hard. QOS is a bit more complicated to design and configure depending on your traffic voice/video being the most prioritized and by the sound of those end devices that may apply. As for pricing, I wont give exact numbers, but as a contractor I have seen prices anywhere from $75 to $250 an hour based on the Im doing you a favor factor, and the wow this is going to be a pain in my a$$ factor. I would say you fall a bit closer to the easy side. If I can assist further let me know, good luck!!

Thanks! Good info.

This company usually contracts me to paint equipment (next time you're in WS at the LJVM look up. All those white speakers were ordered black. $8500 retail each, when they delivered them to my house for disassembly/paint/reassembly my property value quadrupled), or weld frames/mounts/enclosures/etc.. Cisco configs is a new one for them.

I am also Cisco certified, but Meraki kills (traditional) Cisco in my opinion.

Not only for configuring but also for management.

I am meraki certified as well and agree metal is doing some really exciting and innovative things. They are going to grow much more in the near future. Also cool little tip if you haven't already schedule a class with meraki I think its there cmna class. It's free if your a cisco associate and they give you over 1500 in equipment for free, a full stack mx switch and ap. Ok geek talk over hahaha

Another vote for meraki. I should add you geeks on LinkedIn
