CFF June 18 Rimfire Benchrest Challenge

Nice shooting, and very nice rifle! That explains selling the 455 :)

I wanted to but could pass when I knew it was an 8 week wait, but I saw Mile High had them in stock and took a shot at it. I was having massive second thoughts waiting for it to arrive. I might have to find a way to start meeting up with you guys now to justify it more than a back yard gun.

I had a few minutes to shoot this today. I spent most of my time testing out some of the Eley CMP ammo (got a case in mail during the week. It is definitely worth the 7 cents a round (better than CCI Std Vel in the one rifle I tried), but not as good for me as SK Std+, which I was hoping I could replace. Oh well. Anyway I shot 2 cards, one with the Eley CMP for a 20, and one with SK Rifle Match (what I had handy, shoots the same as Std+ for me) with a 25. I think I could have done better if I had shot the Rifle Match a couple more times, but that was not in the cards today :)

Range 0 at DPRC at about 2:30 PM, so there was a little breeze, but below average for afternoons around here. Rifle is the same one as last month - CZ455 Tacticool, Kydex cheek riser, Yodave trigger kit, Viper 6.5-20x44 scope in Vortex rings with a 25 MOA DIP rail, a Harris bipod, and a rear squeeze bag.

Have you ever used Eley Target and if so how do you think the CMP compares? I was Considering buying a case but just now sure how it compares.

In this 455, in a single test last year of 25 rounds of each (plus foulers before any of the Eley) it was very close to Target. Club was a little better and Edge is quite good. Std+ is about as good as Club. I have shot at least a case of Std+ through it, and only a box or less of dozens of other match ammo types.

At 7 cents a round I think it is worth a gamble, especially if your rifle likes Target. It is most likely just Eley’s cheapest match ammo in bulk packaging (500 in a bag in a brick size box). As a last resort, at 1090 FPS it should cycle anything CCI SV does, at the same price, and can’t be worse than SV. I haven’t tested it in anything else for accuracy yet.

Thanks for the info.

I shoot Eley Target and Match out of an Aschutz 64sbr. Both are great. That is why I was asking about the CMP stuff. At .07 cents it is a lot cheaper to shoot. My Stevens and Beretta would probably like the CMP. They both do really well with Federal Gold Match.

Instead of uploading pics, you should've been picking out a target for July and starting a new thread. :p

Didn't your 29 take top spot?

My bad. I didn’t know how the confirmation works. I’m searching through all the posts to make sure I don’t double up. I found something I want to use, but I need to do a little photoshop, so we have more than one item on the page. I should get it up tomorrow at the latest.

Can you give details on that rifle? I must have missed that, my apologies if I did.

I didn’t post any details, but I am happy to. It is a Vudoo Gun Works 18” barreled action. They are based in a Rem 700 platform, so I have a Triggertech Diamond trigger and a MPA Hybrid chassis. Athlon Cronus 4.5-27x56 scope. Let me know if you are curious about anything else.

I was doing some testing and ran through a box of Eley Club in my CZ455 and it was awesome ... EXCEPT ... for the fliers. When it was on it was on but too many fliers for anything prestigious like our monthly CFF matches! Would be good for practice in mine just knowing and accepting that every 10 so is going to go into the next lane

I tried Eley club also and was not that impressed. Someone told me that their pistol liked it and if I remember correctly that was out to 25 yards.
