CFF June 50 yard Benchrest Challenge

Well, it was a fun day at the range. But a bit frustrating. I now know I need to try some different ammo with the cz. Just some odd fliers on shots that felt great. I tried some federal that grouped ok but didn't want to move the scope.

Moved over and started shooting the FVSR at the 200 yard steel. Made me feel a little better. Lol. Maybe I'll have to shoot it instead of the CZ next time.

@chiefjason my Savage still outperforms my CZ Tacticool. I know that's blasphemy in the precision rimfire world but the groups don't lie! YoDave be dammned the CZ trigger doesn't hold a candle to my FV-SR trigger out of the box.

I had 2 FVSR's with me, but I didn't have enough targets. I shot the first target, and instead of switching to the FVSR I wanted to be sure what was going on with the CZ. Probably should have pulled out the CZ set to 50 yards. Maybe next trip. I have my youngest daughters set to 50 and my oldest's set to 200 yards. Great guns, no doubt. Once I got my hold right, I hit the 200 yard steel at least 15 shots in a row. Then went to 300 and started ringing it. Love those little guns.

I went to the rifle range yesterday but I forgot my targets.... But I did finally get the b22 out to 100yds. I think this is the funnest rifle I own!! Lol I was shooting shotgun shells and peices of clay pigeons. Ton of fun! I could even see the bullet in flight. Hope to get out to day and do more shooting :)

Tried to see if I could beat my score of 97/1x from the other day. Did not happen. 95/6x was my best of four today. Left early. It got hot quick today.

If I get to try it again, I'm turning my target sideways!! Seemed to stray horizontally more than vertically. Maybe a couple each way and see how it goes. :D

LOlL...I thought the same thing this afternoon.

It got too hot too quick at our range in the woods to shoot well today.

I tried a couple today after work in the backyard w/ the suppressor on. I did much better then I thought I would with the wobbly table that wasn't long enough to hold my rear bag steady. Halfway through my first string, I realized I was shooting low and left. Adjusted for the second five and did much better. On the second starget I did have one mulligan - a bee landed on me as I was breaking the shot. I'll try this again this weekend at the range when I have a more stable platform.

Okay, finally got off my butt and shot a target. Far from ideal conditions with gusty winds dead right to left. Felt hurried knowing I have a conference call at 4:00 but managed to pull off a decent score, a little low on X's but it is what it is.... Rushed and neglected to take a photo of the gear, Anschutz 1451, 18X Bushnell (old, quality scope) and Fed 714 SV.

Just looking at your target again. I think you scored it wrong. i.e. your first two targets top row are in the nine column. I may be wrong but I believe the points are gained with in the rectangle boxes. Even if with in the outer ring it can be scored as a 9 or a 10 depending on what box you are in. Others please chime in here. Still nice shooting

You are correct. It's actually a 94/1x.

Then why even have the circle. Please refer to bullseye scoring rules and holler back....

Just had a chance to look at the target more closely. By you guys scoring theory a shot could be an inch high or low and still score a 10?? Kind of takes the "precision" out of it doesn't it??
Maybe we need to adopt another target format going forward....

It is not strictly a Bullseye competition. That's the point of this target. On this target you try to shoot the X and not the center bull like you do on a USBR target. The per precision is still there because you need to shoot the X. It is what makes these targets fun because it changes things up a little.

And makes scoring very subjective. Then why not skip the "scoring" altogether and just count X's if that's truly the objective. I can play by any rules as long as we're all on the same page.....

Target Guidelines: You will fire 1 shot per bullseye at each of the 10 bullseyes per page. The maximum score per page is 100 points and 10X’s. Included among the 10 bullseyes are 2 “Sighter Targets” to the left of the page. They are included to help you sight your rifle. Use them if you’d like to ensure your optics are sighted correctly.

This is the premise under which I scored the target.....

I think it's pretty clear. Scored just like circular target rings. Highest "ring" you are touching or in is the score for the shot. Touching center dot is an X. The heavy ring is just for aiming purposes and means nothing for scoring.

The point of the target is to allow some vertical slack for ammo with less consistent velocity.

Nothing wrong with the target. Just have to understand instead of round rings it has rectangles. I thought it was pretty neat and something different.

This challenge will use "Best Edge” scoring. Meaning, if you simply hit the line of the next higher score, you will receive the higher score.

Bailey, per your interpretation you didn't notice other shooters were underscoring their targets?

As an aside, I didn't see any mention of mulligans in the rules. Is there a limit on these? Being one of those who believes golf to be "a good walk ruined" I'm not very well versed on how they work.

To be honest I didn't look at their targets that closely, just the overall scores and number of X's.
As I said, maybe in July we can have a better target and a definitive scoring system. Mulligans don't belong in a shooting sport, pull the trigger and take your lumps....

Agreed. The scoring was very definitive. Each section is marked with a value.

No...you didn't. There are clearly marked scoring values on the target and you didn't use them. :p

Your "1 inch high or low and get a 10" comment is the whole reason I said I was turning the whole sheet of paper sideways if I shot it again. Most of mine went left or right instead of high or low. :D

You were doing it wrong. You should of laid on your side then shot!

"it didn't work out in my favor, so it's stupid..."

Not hardly, I've been shooting scored targets since I was in my mid teens and I have never seen anything inside the bullseye except the X ring. Find any other target that is different.... I'm not saying there not out there (or you could just dream one up) but I've never seen them... Hence my scoring.
I could give a rats ass less about how the scores work out since there's no money involved there's no skin off my butt. Why not use a target that is more definitive and not arranged so a miss is scored as high as a hit.... Or are there participation trophies??

I
I like the tack driver targets

I like tack driver target also. I am sure there would be some who do not like the way they are score though. The only shots that count are inside black ring. If the bullet hole hits black/white inside the black ring that counts. If it hits black/outside that does not. Normally you count good hits as a 10 all other hits are zero. Not as easy as you think on the 3/8' target.

I'm down for the tack driver target. Very simple score, either u hit it or not. Aim small miss small :)

And I got some better ammo coming too.
