CFF March '18 Rimfire Benchrest Challenge

I'm just gonna say I hate stupid stars.
One attempt hit five in a row, dead center.
Missed the other 25.
Best was 13 or 14 if you really push the limit of "hitting" the star. Had quite a few between 10-12.
I think it's this one:

So had a bit of time today to sight I. The sightron I put on my fvsr and try the fgmm ammo. I’m new to precision rimfire so don’t laugh too hard. Best today was 6. Going to try it agin next week with @BigWaylon if the weather cooperates.

Savage fvsr in a Boyd’s stock
SiCo Spectre II suppressor
Sightron Sih tactical 3-9x40
Green blob atlas knockoff bipod

Did you shoot any groups with the FGM ammo or just shoot the target? Was curious as to how it groups? Will be shooting either Thursday or Friday with it.

Yeah. Forgot my stickers at home so this is a dot made from paint on the brass of a 12 ga shell. 5 shots. I’m not a great shooter by any means. I guess that dot is 3/4” maybe

That's a decent group. Can not to wait to try it out

What ever happened here. All I am seeing is pictures of targets, where is the pictures of setups? Thats half the fun, we enjoy seeing what everyone is shooting.

You are right. I forgot to take pic when I was out the last time. Just did not even think about it. If (weather permitting) I shoot it later this week I will try to remember.

I looked all the way back to august. That was the last time I found that it was mentioned in the rules. I enjoy seeing the guns that everyone is shooting.

Finally getting around to posting this from the weekend! Lots of close shots, but a couple thousandths too wide!

Ruger 10/22
BSA 8-32x44
Wolf MT ammo
SCORE =17

Gonna need to see a close-up of the bottom-right star to make sure it counts. :p

I don't feel so bad now. I shot a best 16/30 with my Remington 581-S using Wolf MT and a cheap 3-9 scope.

I certainly see where a 12x or higher powered scope with an AO would make focusing on the stars easier.

Made it out today to try that Federal Premium Match 40gr lrn. Did not shoot the target again. Just wanted to see how the new ammo will do. Have to say I like it. I was not looking for group size as much as I was looking for consistency and yea I am sure I will be ordering more. Will do some more playing with it, but right now I am a fan.

Dist. 50 meters
Front Rest, No rear bag
Temp: 41
Wind: NW 15
Sunny

Forgot to put a dot on cards for POA so I used a bullet hole. Second card I only shot one group. Was going to shoot two, but I was to cold.

First try I thought was ok Second try I was impressed. It was windy as heck and consistency was there.

Made it to Wake Co, which is literally just 4 miles from my house and I do not go often enough, to try this insane target. First time ever shooting this rifle or any precision rifle.

Savage B22 FVSR
Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x40
Knockoff Harris bipod
No rear bag
CCI standard velocity

I count 10 on my best target depending on the “tear” count, also only shot 29 rounds i see now. Finally decided to try my glasses case as a rear rest at the end and hit 4 across the bottom on the other target. Also had a guy shooting a very problematic AR beside me getting squib loads and making me nervous.

The black target is 15 rounds using the improvised rear “bag”. Very impressed with this stock setup for the first 100 rounds. Tested some Fed GM Match HV and Fed GM UltraMatch. Ultra shot better than HV for sure. CCI Stinger and Mini-Mag has a decent POI shift.

Looking forward to another go at this one before the month end and the months to come.

All these monthly challenges look like fun! Is there anywhere in Charlotte that an unaffiliated shooter can do these?
Whatcha doing in the morning? I'm going to be at PHA at 8:30a to meet another member.

...and I've never been, but I believe Denver Defense has 50yd indoor lanes. I might like to try that one day.

You can join @BigWaylon and I in the morning if you’d like.

Damn, I would love to! Thank you for the offer!!
Unfortunately I am in meetings or on conference calls most of the day tomorrow.
PHA is about 1.5 hours away from me, on a good day. I am about as far south in Meck County/Charlotte as you can get. (In hindsight I should have gone just a mile further down the road and got out of Meck County.)

Theese look fun. In a couple months with any luck I'll have a very nic range to use. Going to have to practice with my CZ's.

Frustrating day. Second trip out with the CZ455. First time out was with a Sparrow and CCI SV. Never could get it to be consistent. Today I decided to shoot unsuppressed, and to use some Federal HV Match I bought several years ago.

It had a little higher POI which wasn't a surprise. After shooting a dozen or so rounds I all of a sudden couldn't even hit the 8" circle. Impact hole was nowhere to be found. Did that a couple shots, and finally noticed the front ring wasn't even on the rail anymore. Probably wasted 30 rounds since it was evidently loose. Could even be the reason the last outing wasn't as successful as I'd hoped.

CZ 455 Tacticool
Bushnell 6-18X
Federal HV Match
Caldwell bipod and rear bag
Score: 10

Frustrated enough I shot one target and called it done. I could've sworn Zach and I counted an 11, but when I got home I only see 10. I think the 2nd shot on top left looked like it was a hit while it was hanging, as the star is ripped, but I don't think the hole actually touches it.

IMG_3291.JPG

FWIW...I shot the target starting at the bottom left.

The 2nd row from the top was when I said the only consistency I was getting was inconsistency. Bullseye, then low, then high, then low.

Next trip out I'll go back to the CCI (now that the scope is tightened down), without a can, and see if it'll group better.

Second attempt at this ridiculous target lol I got 11 this time. It was cold and only shot this one target.
Fvsr spectre II Boyd’s stock and sightron scope.

Had a good time with Greg and I too counted 11 on the target.

I have noticed that everyone may be shorting themselves slightly on the target print out. Looking at how close to the top/bottom edge the target title line and reference square are. I told my printer not to scale and measured the reference box to be 1" exact. Not that these stars get that much bigger but just a heads up.

Just what I needed...another good excuse!!

IMG_3298.JPG

That may have given me 2-4 more!! :D

I printed mine from my phone, where I don't get any print options other than color/B&W and single/double sided. Will print another one or two from the laptop and shoot it when I get out for April.

ETA: FWIW, I get an increase from about .384" to .414" across the width of a star from point to point.
