CFF September 2018 Precision Rimfire Benchrest Match

I also have done what you did and not shot at one of the targets. I could kick myself each time.

Also been there, done that - or perhaps I should say been there, did not do that :( I think I actually skipped a target when I picked the target for the month - a double "duh" moment! At least I'm in good company :D

I made it to the range this morning. Best target out of three was 127. I'm not going to win but I like this target!

You should like that target. That is very nice shooting. Many of those missed could be in the same hole. That is what you want the misses to look like.
How do you like that Helos? I am probably going to pick an Athlon for my airgun, but have only used a Cronus (wish I had kept it).

I like the Helos. Very clear glass, tracks perfectly, turrets are very positive and audible. I also have an Athlon Talos on another .22 and I really like it. I have shot with both scopes out to 300 yards with my 22's and have not had any problems. I think Athlon has a good quality scope for the price.

Very nice shooting. I do have to say that I hate this target. Yes I shot it well once. But I do not see that happening again. Next month we get to shoot it again as a KYL target and it looks like you will do very good with that. Again nice shooting!

@BigWaylon Would you start the new thread for Oct. KYL. Also is this if you miss the hole target does not count or how does this work? And once again let it be known "I hate this target" Can never say that to much!!! :)

I was going to go to the range Sat but couldn’t. Went Sunday afternoon. Bad wind, testing new ammo, and limited time resulted in bad scores but I did try.

For the KYL, you get points for every target you hit in order, but once you miss, all points are lost, and you get Zero points. You have to make a strategic decision to know when to quit, so you don’t waste your sheet.
I had to work yesterday and didn’t get back out to try and catch you, so I guess I’ll have to try to catch you on this one.

Ok. First off I am dense! So set that aside. If I understand you correctly if you miss you get a zero for the hole page. Or do you just get points for up to the point you miss?

Example; Starting on bottom row all good then next row you miss the first one you shoot at that is it. Bottom row points count and that is all.

Remember I said I am dense!!!:)

Once you miss, you lose all your accumulated points. Gotta stop before you miss.

Done...but I have a question.

I wrote the rules as requiring to start at the lowest value (biggest dot) and work your way up. Is that actually a requirement?

Or can it be shoot any target you want on the sheet, in any order, but a single miss negates the accumulated score. Less likely of a tie this way...and I don't know what the tiebreaker would be (didn't give it much thought, just wanted to get it posted).

You have to start at the largest dot and go from largest to smallest.

Also, regarding tie breaker, we have often said that the lowest number of attempts (sheets you tried to get the score) can be the tie breaker. I have also thrown out ammo cost as an option.

Maybe I'll list both. Start with number of sheets, and if that's a tie go to ammo cost. And I'd say we pick one place and price ammo that away, instead of actually going by what you paid for it...that work?

I am good with it all. Right now planning on getting out there Wednesday.

Definitely!
This work?

1. How many sheets/targets did you attempt to get your highest score. If you're high score was on your 4th attempt, that's your tie-breaker value. If you shot more targets after that, but never scored higher, those don't need to be included in your count. If you do score higher layer, all previous targets need to be included in the count. Lowest tie-breaker value wins. (So, number your sheets as you work through them)
2. If necessary, the next item to consider is price of ammo. Lowest cost wins. We'll compare prices of somebody that has both in stock at the end of the month instead of using actual price paid.

Wasn't sure if that's how #1 should be done...or if all targets shot should be counted. I didn't think we should penalize for those that kept trying. But if they do end up scoring higher their tie breaker would be a much higher value (and low score wins).

That is fine with me how you have it. I have often wondered how that would work if we ever got there. I think we have a better shot this time at a tie, and I am ok with that method.

Another option for a tie breaker could also be your best, non-scoring target...

It is hard to stop!!

Wait, wait, wait,,, this is starting to make my head hurt.....
Shoot till you miss, then submit your target. The closest miss will win to be determined by the mad man that started this and I think that's Smok3y ? Then the unfortunate person that actually wins this will have the dubious privilege of deciding next months targets...

If you shoot till you miss, you get a zero total score for the target. You have to stop _before_ you miss to get a score.

Does this mean only one crack at it or can you go out another day. For example, day 1 highest score on 4th target. Day 2 higher score on 3rd target. Is that a highest score on 3rd target, or highest score on 7th target, or something else? Valid response might even be that I’m over thinking it - shut up and shoot :D

You'd count the total number of targets it took to get to the one you're submitting.

So if you stopped at 4 on Day 1, and then it was the third attempt on Day 2, that's a 7.

If you're highest on Day 1 was the fourth attempt, but then you still tried two more that day, you'd be 6+3 and have a 9.
