I was trying to get a group out of some new 69 grain bullets I bought. I tried five different OCW weights. But the best group I can find was 1 inch and the worst was closer to four. Keep in mind that I already get 1 inch groups from factory ammunition.

I was using H335, which works for everything else I issued including the 77s I also tested.
Is it worth trying a different powder or does my gun simply not like 69 bullets? I suppose that I can try it in a different gun I've got a barrels length from 10 to 24, but I was really wanting it to work for my three gun competition gun and it did not. The good news is that the 77 did well so I've checked off that box.

Are these 69 gn V-MAX???? If so, H335 did not work for me. I have had best success with Alliant AR-Comp and Ramshot TAC. The AR-Comp performing the best and giving me the best muzzle velocity.

I've had good luck with 8208XBR and Varget, but those were with heavier bullets. I've done very little testing/workups with 69gn bullets. I can loan you either if you would like to try without having to buy a pound of each.

I spent a long summer weekend in the loading room. No dice with accuracy.

At dinner on night my wife asked whats wrong.

I told her i was so frustrated. I tried every ball powder i have.

She thought a minute and suggested a window unit air conditioner for the loading room.

As others said a different powder could certainly give better results. I always liked Varget and Reloder 15 for anything heavyish.
I played with a couple 68/69gr bullets years ago and never got great results though many seem to.

I'm going to give it a try. I picked up some H4895 and will have my son shoot some OCW groups this weekend.
