I'm looking into joining CRPD. Does anyone in the area have any experience with their facilities? Have already been informed of the yearly fee and 'initiation' fee.

I live nearby in S.C. so I have about a 30 minute drive.

Thanks in advance.

pm inbound - we have several members on the forum.

I have been thinking about joining there for a while now. I have some friends who are members and they love it. I have only shot there for an Appleseed event, but it is a nice enough place.

The only thing that has held me back was the unfortunate first impression we got on our first visit years ago. The folks that showed us around were more than a little ... abrasive. I have been reassured that they are not the norm though.

If you go visit and/or join let us know what you think!

I keep thinking about joining, do they still have a years-long wait list?

I joined last year but am still a provisional member. Need to make some time to finish up the full membership requirements. My son just asked me this weekend about going shooting.

Put it this way...

Before I joined there was a 50-50 chance I would have a gun pointed at me every time I went to a public range. It happened *a lot*.

Hasn't happened once in the last 5 years since I joined. Everyone else at the club jumped thru the same hoops to get in and abides by the same rules. It ain't perfect and you wont like some of them, but it is worth it.

You lost me at Provisional, orientation, background check. I've been shooting all my life and maybe I just haven't noticed anyone pointing a gun at me at the range. Well, except my cousin when we were about 15, but he's short on the common sense of things.

As an alternative, look intoTake Aim Training and Range in Pageland. It’s just about 2 miles into SC, south of Monroe. Total it’s about 30 minutes from CRPC.
Stony Rushing and his family own the place. $150 a year ((single membership) or $$200 I think for a family. No initiation, no orientation, open 7 days a week. Pistol, rifle, shotgun and archery.
Stony is running for Congress to fill Mark Harris’ seat and is as good a person as you’d ever want to know

This is a decent alternative. I used to be a member there. I don’t have as much time to drive 40mins and spend a whole day shooting as I used to with a toddler in the house, so I haven’t renewed.

The one thing about Take Aim is that there are no Range Officers. If you’re there on a weekday and have the range to yourself, as you often will, it’s awesome. If you go on the weekend, it’s packed...and scary without any ROs. I got to the point where I was taking off one Friday a month just to get there early and shoot before anyone else got there.

I gave up my membership too and for the same reasons. It helps I have a back yard I can shoot in.

been a member since 2009 not real happy with the direction the club has gone. I probably wouldn't jump through the hoops to join again

Am a member at Take Aim. Every one I have met over the last few years have been good people. As said Stoney and his family are good people.

CRPC? Would you be willing to give a little more detail on the direction it is going?

IMHO..... North is the best way I can describe it. That's what gave me the bad taste in my mouth about CRPC.
I went to shoot skeet one day and was inundated with damned Yankees telling me how to do everything except zip my pants, even though when asked I told them I was an very experienced shooter. One of them even recognized me from a past tournament.
The range Nazi's abound and want to exercise their "authoritay" over your every move, too smothering for my tastes......
