Check this thing out

I don’t know if they still use them but headboats use to use them ... in the late ‘70’s to early ‘80’s. I remember them on the Capt Stacy out of Morehead. I’d check with someone old enough to know more about it but stripping it might be like refinishing an early Winchester or such. I know the old monster Penn reels can be collectible but not much after that.

Ditch the rod. You can get a new one that size cheap enough. Should be able to find senator parts on eBay

But what if want to start building rods from blanks? Perfect starting point right here, since I need more expensive time consuming hobbies.

I used to build rods. Lot of fun, and it really doesn't cost too much to get into. Just don't go cheap on the lathe. If and when I ever retire that is on the list of things to do.

I've been kicking around the same idea myself. I built a couple small rods a few years ago. It was a learning experience.

My brother makes fly rods. It's a labor of love for him...and a ton of work/patience to accomplish. In fact, he just sent one to me that I'm hoping to get out this weekend with... see if the kids cooperate long enough for me to go.
