My local Publix has been out of Mardi Gras wings for a couple weeks. I'm about to riot.

If you've not had their Mardi Gras wing, first go infract yourself. Then get to a Publix and demand a pound of them. If they have none, pull a Falling Down and temper tantrum until they bring you some.

Wings is the part of the chicken that you throw away...with the rest of the chicken!!!!!!

What's crazy is wings used to be throw away parts

I used to buy 5 lb bags for $2.99. Then it was $4.99. Then $7.99. Then the bags went to 3lbs for $7.99. If they are not on sale I've seen 2.5 lb bags for $8.99 now. Gotta buy a bunch when there is a deal.

But hey, the gov't says there is no inflation!

When we were kids the butcher would give my mom a bag of them when were picking up groceries and the IGA. Damn Bills and their 4 superbowl losses in a row ruined it for everyone...

First, I am a wing purist in that it must be a whole wing NOT a part of the wing to actually be considered a wing.

Second, drumsticks are MUCH cheaper in this day and age; twice the meat and half the work to eat.

It's not a wing dammit, but it fits the budget better these days. :)

Some wing porn for you:

When I was a kid we used chicken wings and necks for crab bait. About a quarter a pound. Only the poor of the poor ate wings and necks.

How many wings can I get with 1 round of Federal 22? The already cooked ones upstairs.

I like my wings separated. My wife likes the little drummies and I like the flats better but I actually like any part of the wing.

If you eat drums you can eat and dip without use of your other hand. So that paw is free to always hold a cold beer. Ask me how I know that! :p

Thank goodness I (now) work for a large foodservice distributor. No shortage for me.

I love wings, growing up that's all we abecause they were the cheapest thing you could buy.
90% mom bought whole chickens anyway. My wife (47) will be in the generation of my family that knows how to cut up a whole chicken, She hasn't done it in years though

It's all good. Different parts for different applications. Drumsticks when I want easy grilling and one hand eating. Thighs if I want to stir fry or roll around feta and spinach. Breast if frying (cut up, not whole), whole chicken if roasting or if someone wants beer can chicken. Wings if repackage is called for.
I could go on, but I am getting hungry and just finished supper.

I had wings at a local b'cue joint for lunch yesterday. Afterwards I wish there was really a wing shortage. They were pretty lame.

Best restaurant wings I've had lately were from Wingman in Carrboro. Cajun sauced. Awesome....
