Inspected and gauged this M21 SKS this week in Afghanistan. These were made by the Chinese for North VietNam during the SouthEast Asia games. Early guns were marked M21 No. then SN. This is a later production with the factory code in front in this case Chinese Arms Factory 416. No other markings found during my quick look over and inspection. Barrel is straight, functioned check and headspaced. Just think of the stories this one could tell. Shown with a Russian 1973 AKM (original wooden stock been replaced)

Some more info on 416

It's a shame war trophies aren't so much a thing anymore. I guess the chances of bringing that home are about zero?

There was a ban on anything except blackpowder guns here in Astan. That may have been lifted as back in Jun ATF Importation Branch told me that I could import C&R weapons on my 03 FFL. Big question is if DoD customs allows me to. Got some questions to ask.

Hope you get it home!

Wasn't 386 the factory for polytech or was that for AK's ?

Both 386 and 416 are plants for Polytech and they made both the SKS and AK.

386 (in circle): State Arms Factory in Longyan, SE China. Poly.
416 (in triangle): State Arsenal 976 in Qingdao, Shan Dong Province, East central China. Poly.
366 (66 in triangle): Hei Long Jiang Province, NE China. Norinco (civilian).
26 (in triangle): Jianshe Machine Tool Factory near Chingquing, province of Sichuan, SW China. Formerly known as Factory 296 (one of oldest small arms plants).
There are others.

About the only way to get anything out of the sandboxes is in pieces. If you decide to cut the 73 up let me know, I collect guns from 1973 as it's my birth year.

Might see that gun this weekend as I revisit them. Got some new M4 uppers to swap out their shot out ones.

Have ran into a second M21 here in Astan. No bayonet on this one and in bit rougher shape. Just under 9000 apart on production between these two. Other gun got demilled and took home 6 mos ago.
