How is packaged cured pork a risk to the US herd? Are we feeding pigs bacon now?

That aside, this is super sketch. We really need to cull our relationship with China to a minimum. They are not our friends....

That was my thoughts as well. I don't understand how it's a problem unless they found live pigs. I would think there are much easier ways to infect a pig farm than importing a million pounds of dead pigs.

The Spread
Almost half of the outbreaks in China are spread via vehicles and hog traders, while about a third come from contaminated swill, Huang Baoxu, deputy head with China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center, told reporters last week.

The virus can survive for a month in pepperoni and salami, for 140 days in Iberian cured pork products and for 399 days in Parma hams, scientists found. That means pigs can become infected if they eat contaminated food scraps.

“In the end, there is not much anybody can do to stop it,” said Dirk Pfeiffer, a professor of veterinary medicine and life sciences at City University of Hong Kong. “They are trying the best they can,” he said, adding the measures implemented may be costly.
 
Probably fake news, but nonetheless best to redirect the ship to Saudi Arabia where there is no herd to infect.

Think of cutting economic ties with China, the cost is huge inflation in th US. The disease is gonna kill us, the cure might be worse. It’ll take leadership and determination to undo decades of short term thinking, and those are in seriously short supply!

It might be cheap up front, but getting rid of the aftereffects will not be cheap.
 
They probably learned the trick from us.
When America was young we gave the Native Americans blankets polluted with small pox virus.

What is fake news? That they tried to do this? They do this stuff the time. Hell, they will sail up and down the coast trying to unload it wherever they can. The crap China pulls would blow most people's minds.

I still can't believe I missed them buying Smithfield a few years back. That surprised me. Of course, you have to ask, if they bought our biggest pork producer, why the hell are they importing their diseased garbage here?

Ha, no, not that they tried to do this but that the finished products are a vector for the virus. Turns out that since I posted I’ve learned that the virus survives for expended periods in the finished products.

Same way Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy was spread - lazy ass farming practices have us feeding bone meal and slurry of the same species to each other. Apparently feeding cows ground up cow was a bad idea...

looks like they have to pay the tariff either way, even if they raise em here in the US. So I guess they figure it's cheaper to ship it than pay the mexicans on the farms?? IDK

I can tell you one thing, those calculating commies know exactly what they're doing when breaking US laws. Look at copyrights!
 
It almost seems to me like they're importing our good pork, and exporting their contaminated pork here. Knowing them, they're making a ton of money both ways.

With the rate that China is buying up land and companies around the globe, its only a matter of time before they own everything.
