My baby girl is quickly becoming a toddler, and with improved mobility comes increased curiosity. So, I need a bedside handgun safe before she learns how walk and open stuff.

Ideally I'd like to keep this in the top drawer of my nightstand. A quick-access combo lock seems ideal over a biometric lock, but I don't have any experience with the latter when it comes to safes. Additionally, I definitely don't want to fumble with a key. Have watched a bunch of YouTube videos (and visited most of their promoted/suggested options). Have read through a few threads. Just interested in some updated first-hand experience, especially from those of you who've relied on these for awhile now. And I'm curious if there's anything new in mid-2021 that I'm missing.

What do you like? What don't you like? What do you trust with your life, and more importantly, your childrens' lives?

I keep this bolted to the side of my dresser. I liked the buttons over bio.

I keep the pistol inside with a loaded mag but no round in the chamber, just in case my girl is able to figure out the combo. All other guns in the house locked up as well. As she gets older, we continually educate her and reevaluate security

I really like my Vaultek VT20. I specifically did not get the fingerprint model because of the inconsistency in those fingerprint readers actually working. It’s fast, easy, battery powered, well built, looks decent, and fits 2 pistols very well.
It uses a rechargeable 18650 battery that lasts about a year, depending on your usage. I like the app connectivity as well but honestly I rarely use it. I tried to enter my code faster than the unit can capture it and was unable to do so. Even if you make your code 1-1-1-1-1, you can’t outrun the unit, which is something I’ve had issues with on cheaper units (I’m looking at you Stack-on!!).

You can barely fit 2 full sized pistols, or easily fit 2 smaller like shields plus a spare mag.

I bought the flex on sale on Amazon's Black Friday cyber Monday something. It works well. I wish I had bought the guardian but it wasn't on sale.

A little pricey but I am a big fan of these as we have three of them throughout the house. Neighbor across the street has a couple as well.

Quick entry via biometric, code or the key.

I bought one of these when our first child was born. I'll probably use it even after ours are grown in case guests or family bring young children over. It holds my CZ PCR and is easy to access if I need it. Has low battery indicator and also a key you can store elsewhere for backup.
