I have had a Shimano Stella (8000 I think) for 7nor 8 years, use it for surf fishing. Don’t dunk it, don’t lay it on the sand, but also don’t open it up to clean, just give it a quick rinse from a shower.

Videos make it seem pretty simple to clean and lube, any reason to send it in for service, or is it pretty foolproof.

Headed fishing in a couple weeks.

I don’t think so.
Does it work like it should and not sound all grindy ? Maybe the drag will have a hitch in it if you didn’t loosen it from the last time.

I assume that I loosened the drag, but it’s been a few years. No funny noises, but it hasn’t been lubed since new.

I used to sell Shimano reels and the Stella had a lifetime service agreement. I’m pretty sure they would clean it and replace any worn parts and guaranteed to have it back to you in 48 hours. That was directly through Shimano. Might want to see if they still do that.

A quick clean and lube is pretty easy. I wouldn’t take it down to the small parts, but a basic cleaning and lube wouldn’t hurt.
