Looks like I’m picking up a new (to me) squirrel getter. Old school walnut and blued steel.

I‘m going to be looking for an optic and want something with classic lines and an old school feel. Mount will be a 3/8” dovetail.

Fixed power is ok.

suggestions?

Leupold makes some models in a glossy finish, which is something that was popular several years ago, you don't see it as much today. The Leupold FX (fixed power) have great glass.

I have an ancient 4x20 I think maybe a Leupold. It's like looking thru a keyhole into a dark closet

The vintage Weaver K scopes can be had on eBay and in pawn shops. I have a 2.5 and a 3, both really clear and good looking on a blued rifle.

Leopold 4x RF scope, parralex adjusted for short yardage and the duplex crosshairs are thinner than standard.

The old Redfield rimfire scopes were great. They were a compact size with a 3/4" tube. Browning had their line of rimfire scopes but they were Redfield with the Browning name on them.

And if/when you find a 3/4" Redfield snatch it up and throw the rifle away!! The scope is worth more than the gun!!! LJ has a Browning Auto (loads through the buttstock) with a cantilever mount and the 3/4" Redfield. It's the ONLY scope that looks right on that gun...

I looked through a vortex crossfire 2-7 and a Leopold VX-Freedom 2-7 last night. I’m kinda digging that Leopold.

I picked up a VX Freedom awhile back...... the glass seems to be just as good as my VX-2 scopes but the internals are not the same. It's a solid scope but the adjustments felt mushy, not like the VX-2s at all. No problem at all with tracking. It'll be perfectly fine if you intend to sight it in and leave it alone but I wouldn't want to have to count clicks for regular adjustments.

I like to put a vintage scope on a vintage rifle, such that both are from the same era, and it ends up looking like they've always been together.

What is your new rifle, and when was it made, Tim?

I mounted on my wife's 572 FieldMaster either a Weaver K4 or 2-7x (have one of each). 572 was also made pre68.
