Clay shoots in Anson county

Prices are right on the money. About $5 more per 50 on sporting clays than us, but we are not trying to make a profit as a business either. 5 stand is about $2.50 a round more. At least for the non member prices.

I must be spoiled by Gaston county Rankin lake range. $25.00

Rankin is subsidized by the county. Ours is subsidized by the club. Clays cost on 50 birds is around $5-10. Our trapper rate is $5 for those of us that work a few Saturdays a year and IIRC that just covers the cost of clays. Member is $10. Guest is $20. Those are for 50 bird rounds on sporting clays. Most businesses really don't have much more of a margin than we do, but they operate more than twice a month. When we do capital improvements to the course the club foots the bill and figures it will be returned in a few years by what we bring in. A business has to subsidize those things right out of the profit. Flip side is that we don't do some of the nicer things others do like golf cart rentals. Our course and machines are as good as any though.

Their about in line with the market and I called about their "memberships" which the site mentions several times but doesn't list and it's 150.00 per year with a 25.00 "admin fee" added to the first year.
I may go down and shoot a round just to see what all the fuss is about but doubt if I join or make it a regular stop on my circuit....

Price is fine. Given the short drive to a large city he should make a little money. And little is the key word. I have been fortunate to be a member of a small private club with low fees with low operating cost.

We mostly shoot at Rocky Creek. Member cost per 100 is 38. Non member is 55. They just went up.

We will give it a try one day.

Speaking of which, you coming tomorrow?

Maybe. But I’m not going to embarrass myself with you guys shooting. I haven’t shot but three times each year for 5 years. My eyes have gotten really bad over the last few years.

Looks like our 60 year old skeet club in the center of the city is on brink of going away. At least from the free spot it was founded on. The 400 plus acres has a buyer five years after the original owner passed and left it to relatives. They have had many issues with being able to sell the land due to city pipelines running thru the property. Now a conservatory non profit organization is expected to purchase the land in March of 2020.

Hickory Skeet Club will either need to purchase land or close the doors. The officers don’t seem to be proactive in moving on a solution. Most stated they will join other locations.

That sucks. Its a neat location. I know a lot of the more serious shooters are members of other clubs already. Hate to see a place to shoot go away. If you have any questions about the wildlife club just ask. We are in the process of upgrading the skeet field.

Yep. $50 a year fees with 10 free rounds annually. Basically one dinner for two each year. Work 2 hours at the annual meeting and you get 10 more free rounds. Additional rounds were 3 bucks. Brand new voice operated throwers. Every member has a combination to come and go as they please on any day of the week.

At the beginning of the year two guys got on the property and tore up the grass field with four wheel drive trucks. Problem for them though. There were cameras on the property. It’s a slice of heaven in the middle of the major shopping district of Hickory. Lots of wildlife like turkey and deer.
