I still haven't had a chance to clean the copious amount oil off of the .357 El Patron I bought. It is absolutely coated. I obviously don't want to wreck the bluing, and all I could find was mainly about black powder revolvers and everyone washing them with Dawn dish soap after complete disassmebly. To be honest, that scares me. It has the floating firing pin, the "improved" as it says on the box. What can I use to clean up the outside after I dry off all the oil with a soft cloth?

same way you have cleaned the inside and outside of every firearm you own. hoppes 9, remclean, break cleaner spray, kerosene, alcohol wipes, silicone rag, gasoline, windex, muzzleloader solvent, CLP, LSA, Rig Grease, etc. Just have at it, blueing is the same on every gun and the stuff on the Eyetalian revolvers is no less durable.

As to the firing pin, if you decide you don't need it, Taylors/Cimarron has the uberti conversion parts. Under $100 as i recall to replace your hammer, trigger, base pin, etc and you then have an authentic 4 click 5 shooter action.

The only thing with Uberti to worry about is if it has that fake charcoal/bone/whatever they call it bluing. I forget what the chemical process is but those rainbow colors can be removed by certain chemicals.

Use something gentle like Ballistol or whatever if that's the finish it has.

Yeah, just standard wipe down of the external surfaces, the chambers, and the bore. I’d pull the grips and wipe off any oil on or under them. Microfiber towel, maybe a spritz of clp but probably not.

Good to know! I still intend to do the "cowboy" load. I even do it in Mrs. Roughrider, even though it has a safety. Just a good habit IMHO for single action, JIC I pick up a more authentic one and forget!

Also Taylor's is good people; I highly recommend them based on my experience.
