Cleaning stainless steel revolver carbon

I have some felt rags I bought with some kind of coconut infused stuff, and it cleans those burn rings right off. No chemicals that I am aware of. Amazing. Bought them from a guy on a 1911 forum.

Apply some ol' fashioned Hoppes bore cleaner with a q tip. Leave it be for a while, wipe off.

Your method works, and will for a long time. But polishing compound IS an abrasive (super fine, though it may be) keep in mind that it does remove metal as well as buildup.

Apply that technique to a brushed/matte stainless finish and you will understand.

No elbow grease required. 😉

Sounds good. But I do hesitate to use polish on firearms...I know it would take years and years probably, but removing metal aint a high priority for me.
