I was talking to a fellow this morning and he keep calling the darn thing a “clip”. And it was driving me nuts. It makes you sound like some liberal that doesn’t know what they are talking about!!!

This is a CLIP

This is a MAGAZINE

And for educational purposes here is a video by hickok45 to elaborate on the subject

Is this a pet peeve thread? Mine is the guy who talks trash and swaggers because he has a concealed carry permit. I know that guy, and he’s a Yankee to boot!

It doesn't bother me a bit, Don't be "that guy"

It’s not like we are talking about the difference between “tomato or tamato”? A clip and a magazine are 2 totally different things. And yes, I’ll be that guy. They aren’t the same

Neither are channel locks and pliers but to a novice they are the same thing. When someone who acually owns a gun says Clip instead of Mag it doesn't bother me because at least they are one of us to a extent.

Hey, what’s wrong with being a Yankee?! [emoji12]

And did I mention I have my CCP?

Speaking of, when I took my class, the host referred to his pistol magazine as a “full clip”....

PING!

This post is irrelevant. You would have a valid point IF you couldn’t differentiate the difference between the two- I.E the aforementioned “ channel locks vs. pliers “ example; but that’s not the case... obviously if a guy has a semi-automatic firearm and is referencing a clip, common sense would tell you he’s not referring to a stripper clip for rifles...

I’m not even a liberal, and I can tell you’re just bitching about a moot point. Grow up.

As long as we're arguing semantics we call it a Concealed Handgun Permit in North Carolina. Yankees

No, I think you're wrong about that. Use (or misuse) of terminology tells me something. If I am listening to a speaker and have to translate terms to infer meaning then one of us is ignorant about the topic being discussed.

When someone who doesn't know anything about firearms uses clip and magazine interchangeably it doesn't bother me that much...good educational opportunity. But when someone who has been around them enough to know better uses them, then yeah, it does kinda bug me. It isn't a rarely used term, so its something that people learn early on, so a continued use of the term shows me that the person is intentionally remaining ignorant, or doesn't really care enough to use the proper language. It isn't like someone saying "Gas pedal" as opposed to "Accelerator pedal"...its like saying "Use the one on the right to go vroom vroom and the one on the left to go SCREEEEEEECH!!!!"

IMG_1183.PNG What's this type of clothing is this called? That tells me if your from around here. Not on topic but but this is a Toboggan. People up north aren't unintelligent just ignorant.

Lived in Minnesota, so heard it called a Toboggan, Took, Sock hat...True story, that little pom pom thing on top came from the military, specifically sailors. That little pom pom would brush the upper decks as they walked so it would cushion their heads from bonking the decks above, or give them a warning when they were getting close. Built in fuzzy airbag.

Wrong. That’s clearly a stalking cap. This is a toboggan. [emoji12]

And back on topic, I agree that clip vs mag is forgivable for a noob but for a self proclaimed “expert”, mixing up terminology tells me that you don’t care about the details. I am a details guy and don’t mind being corrected when wrong myself.

I didn’t take the time to copy a picture of each and every kind of “clip” there is. I know the picture I posted is a picture of a stripper clip. My WHOLE POINT to this thread is to point out(and obviously there are several on here that don’t know) the difference between the two. That’s why I posted a very informative video.

And to your example, obviously you are right but ALSO obviously he is wrong in stated it’s a “clip” when it’s really a magazine. That’s like telling me he has an assault rifle for sale. When I know good and well it’s an AR-15 or M4 but he wants to sound all gangster and call it an “Assault Rifle” instead.

And what I’m talking about is NOT a “moot” point by the way. If we want the left and media to take us seriously, then we need to know what we are actually talking about and use the correct terms. If not then we just sound like a bunch of hypocrites.

Apparently I struck a nerve with my post o_O lol

We are just disagreeing,, no one really cares. It's all good,,, and BTW nothing goes on top of a good banana pudding.

I have a Canadian that works with me and he said they call those a TUQUE (pronounced /tuːk/).

That's a boggin it goes on your noggin

I don't let it bother me, but I usually try to educate the folks who call a magazine a clip.

The only time it bothers me is when I'm at a gun show and I see the vendor who sells magazines, but has a big sign over his table saying "GUN CLIPS FOR SALE"

Transfer what? There is nothing to transfer because when said person says “clip” you automatically know what they are talking about... so what exactly are you referring?

Trust me my friend, you didn’t . Just expressing my opinion, just as you are.

I see what you did there :)

Guys, can’t we to all just get along ... let’s be conscious of their feelings ... may compromise and call it a clipazine. Doing so will allow the idiots at news conferences to not fell so stupid when some people start to snicker at their commonsensical gun control ideas.

"Channellock" is a brand name, I believe you are referring to tongue and groove pliers, just one of their products, and one of many types of pliers, they may be the original tongue and groove plier, Knipex is the best. A true novice is probably gonna be pretty confused when you're upset cause they handed you a Channellock stamped adjustable wrench or pair of side cutters when you ask for Channellocks, but if you tell them tongue and groove pliers they'll probably be completely lost.

The clip/mag thing doesn't bother me, but I am inclined to believe one using the incorrect terminology may be of limited knowledge on the subject.

Toboggan bugged me when I moved back here after a 20 year absence and heard it non-stop in winter, never heard it when I was a kid growing up in Fayetteville. Only ever heard it in reference to sleds anywhere, always takes a second to process what's being discussed, but it doesn't really bother me.

English is a fine language.

This right here would have me seriously questioning his qualifications to teach anything firearms related, I don't care if the NRA rubber stamped him for an instructor. I've seen NRA certified instructors who were very proud of their papers, but were completely ignorant of anything firearms related past the course material.

Nope, just respond to idiocy when I see it

Idiocy? Nothing idiotic about facts. That’s like saying a bullet is the same thing as a cartridge? A bullet is part of a cartridge but it’s not the same thing.
