Anyone planning to try for one? I'm still on the fence.

On the one hand, I have a SA GI model I bought used for $350 that looks just like those pistols (referring to the pics here https://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2018/5/22/the-cmp-m1911s-the-inside-story/ ) and shoots great. CMP pricing is too expensive for something to just shoot/carry.

On the other hand, pricing is in line with actual USGI 1911s. But I'm not a collector of firearms to collect; I shoot what I have.

On the third hand, there are a lot of folks in this country who desperately wanted to see those pistols melted down and NOT made available for folks to buy. It took a lot of political maneuvering to get us to where the CMP 1911s are even available. I'd love to help stick a thumb in their eye...

"Unsurprisingly, the amendment met opposition. Certain members of Congress expressed concerns that the release of these surplus M1911A1s might spark a crime wave or that the pistols might fall into the hands of individuals prohibited from owning a firearm."

How out of touch with reality are these congressmen? Did CMP spark a crime wave with the M1 Garands?

To answer the original question: Yes, I'd love to have one or two.

Yeah, how many people are going to go through a NICS check, get a copy of their FFL, buy a pistol for 2x to 3x what an Armscor or equivalent costs...and then go on a crime spree with it??? I mean, really.

Yup, sent in my packet last week.

As stated, the CMP prices are on par for what you'd expect to pay for a USGI mixmaster pistol. If you're looking for a 1911 shooter then yes, there are much cheaper options available. What you're buying is a collectable piece of history...

...and don't forget this. Just about everything that the CMP has sold has drastically increased in value. Look at how the prices of M1 rifles and carbines have climbed over the years. Genuine USGI 1911s won't be getting any cheaper.

What the heck...I sent in a packet today. I have zero expectations, so I have the opportunity of being pleasantly surprised
