I apologize in advance for the mediocre photos. I'll have to get some better ones in diffuse natural light. But I was excited...

Field grade Remington Rand frame with Colt slide. You can easily see the heat treat. This pistol was DRY. It has rebuild mark A 1 81, FJA initials on the side, P proof mark under the mag release, and the crossed cannons are just visible in the right light. It is pretty tight and does NOT rattle at all. The case is pretty serious; it's quite usable for flying with a firearm (check out those metal-lined lock holes), and is gasketed. I am a happy camper...

I almost didn't go though with it. I was going to be frugal and not partake - I had RNG #12767 - but when "CMP" flashed up on my caller ID, I snap-decided to answer and go ahead and get one. The stuff I've been selling helps lessen the impact...and now my M1s have a little baby brother :D1911_case.JPG 1911_left.JPG 1911_right.JPG 1911_stripped.JPG 1911_barrel_front.JPG 1911_barrel_rear.JPG

Good looking pistol. Let us know how she shoots!

It's going to look good on you, btw for what they get for them that case is nice accessory.

It will be next week before I can get to the range due to work deadlines :(

Looks nice! I'm pretty sure I have a Remington Rand slide somewhere around here if you were interested in putting together a "matching" gun.

I appreciate that...let me think about it.

What grade did you get?
Field grade. I saw a lot of pics of service grades with thick new park over barely readable markings. Seemed to have a slightly better chance of getting something with “character” with field grade. Saved $100 too :D CMP offered a choice of service or field when they called.

Love how the neigh sayers kept saying these would be garbage. Had these in the same condition as in Afghanistan. Just sent home (to depot) couple more old 1911s that were still serving.

I never said they were garbage just that collectors snapped up the higher grades and thw lower grades were way overpriced compared to whats out there commercially. A $1000 mixmaster 1911 has no value to me as a shooter or collector

I know the thread's old, but I FINALLY was able to carve out a little time to shoot this field grade. The white circle is 4" and the blue circle is 8", and this is representative. This is one mag at ~15 yards, indoors, where the lighting is not so good. Those little USGI sights in gray park are almost impossible for me to see under that lighting condition, so given that, I was well pleased.

Nice group. That old warhorse will still get the job done!

I'm patiently waiting to pick my service grade up from my FFL

I did drift the rear sight by feel/eyeballing. I think I'll leave it where it is - looks close enough!

Sweet! Pretty nice group for eyeball drifting that rear sight. Impatiently waiting for my number to be called but looking at these beauties makes it a little easier.

Picked mine up today on the way to dinner so no pictures yet. Service grade, not a rebuild. Even, somewhat worn finish. Ithaca slide, Colt frame. GI magazine with a rust spot on it. Barrel hood isn't marked. Frame is marked GHD on the left and SA on the right side.

Very happy, thanks CMP!
