This fall and winter will bring global food shortages. From China 3 gorges area flooding along with a lot of Asia, drought conditions in Australia, and crop damage in the plains states from storms things are going to get scarce. Add manufacturer's shortages of cans and labor due to covid lockdowns.

Stock up now while you can. When the media starts talking about it it is too late.

I sincerely hope that you don't get bragging rights to first call on this here.

Of course. I’m having to clear out my house and freezer for some renovation work so of course we will then not be able to re-stock.

Any chance you can rehome the freezer to family or friends so you can keep it full? Or you could can the contents of the freezer...

Send a prayer out to the local wildlife population if this comes true.
You see how long it the wild turkey population to rebound for being decimated during the Great Depression.

I have bullet moulds for all centerfire rifle and pistol calibers I own. Primers and powders that you can use for reduced loads. Small game will become scarce.

Here is one article about china. There are others about Australia and the midwest.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...a-thousands-power-outages-midwest/3354939001/

It's always a good idea to have extra.
And I'm not saying it isn't outside the realm of possibility, but just because someone makes a statement on the internet doesn't make it true.

We just went through an enforced closure of businesses and there was such a large surplus of crops and meat and eggs that farmers were plowing under their corn, dumping milk down the drain, using millions of eggs as fertilizer, and selling chicken out of trucks in parking lots.

And that toilet paper "shortage" was due to people being stupid and acting on...you guessed it...random rumors they heard on the internet. It actually started in Australia because the Aussies thought they bought their TP from China. Which of course they don't.

It's just as, if not more likely there would be shortages from alarmists posting unsubstantiated rumors online.

This is the whole point of going heavy on the bean and rice. Keeps a long time and take little space. By maintaining a pantry that has some canned goods you use all the time and seasoning you use all the time a minor (few months) interruption in supply won't catch you empty handed ever.

So glad my chest freezer crapped out a few months back. Gave away the deer meat I couldn’t stuff in my regular fridge

Edited original post to add a couple of links. If you need more they are out there; just do some digging. Dont wait to be spoofed by the media

Pressure canner. Most venison I get goes in jars as stew or just roasted meat.

Can yer vittles.......... Not much stuff that can't be canned or stuffed into mylar bags in a 5 gallon bucket. Hell if I can do it most anyone can.

They're expensive, but effective. We ordered one on News Years Day (2020) as they were running a special, $500 off. If you do get one, go with an oil free pump.

We've used it mostly for fruits and vegetables so far and haven't tried any prepared foods. It's been an effective way to preserve the garden harvest and store in a manner that doesn't require electricity. I would say that overall, freeze dried stuff is about 75-80% as good as fresh once it's re-hydrated.

Granted, there was a lot of food that didn't get where it was needed. Those supply chain problems are likely to have a ripple effect, such as a dearth of feeder pigs because the breeders got stuck with a bunch they couldn't sell to the people who raise them to market weight. I saw people trying to sell piglets for $20 each as long as you took a minimum of 50. When they dont raise as many to sell because they got burned...

We bought some of the parking lot chicken. Point is things have been disrupted and are going to get worse. When china has a 30percent crop failure they are going to get it from somewhere.

You do you; just wanted to pass on the info.

I find this stuff gives me the trots. Too much C in a dose for me. If you aren't used to taking this stuff you might want to try it now just for kicks. You may discover you need to half the dose to not get that burning urge to vacate your bowel.
This has never happened to me...

But, I like your penmanship... You, sir, are a poop poet and don't know it!

I'm asking questions because you make a bold statement with no real reasoning or proof of what you claim. It sounds more like a prophecy from an oracle.

Ok, so China might be facing shortages. We don't depend on China for basic food items. In fact, it's the other way around, even says so in the article. If anything we should see an economic boost from that unless we sell ourselves out of food.

As for the Midwest, definitely drought conditions, but compare to previous years:

For example, 2013 and 14 look very similar. Same time in 2013 actually looked worse than this month. No famine back then.

How does Australia affect our food supply? They're an export market as well.

There comes a point where there either isn't enough to go around, or those what have it dont want to give it up.

I was looking at things on a global scale. I dont like what I see.

Best case, things get expensive. Worst case, well you fill in the blanks as you see fit.

Up to you; not here to argue about it.

hell a lot of the stuff is good right out of the bag that’s been freezer dried. i’ve had mine for about 7 months now and has really helped. freeze dried strawberries are the bees knees followed by asparagus.

Check out the YouTube or Patreon channels for Ice Age Farmer and Adapt2030. Those guys do analysis based on information/references you can independently verify.

According to recent reports, China is buying record amounts of corn and soy, Australia, UK, US and others have had significant crop losses due to flooding, storms, frosts, etc. These crops have/could affect animal feed supplies too.

Who knows how things will play out ultimately, but there is nothing wrong with stocking up.

My neighbors are my kin....is that okay? Or will I burn in hell?

I guess I just could go a bit down the road, though, and find some non-related food?
I don’t plan to actually eat the neighbors.
Just cook them.

Once the word gets out I figure no one within five square miles will bother me.
About anything.
Ever.
