This never made the news that I know of so here it goes in a couple post.

So Sunday night, a week ago in eastern Burke County a group of neighbors decided to do recon to catch those breaking into cars and buildings. Seem a father and son were part of the group. The father is a preacher and the son is in his early 20s. Seems the father went back to the car and fell asleep. The son approached the car and the sleeping father woke up and shot him in the face.

The son was flown to Levine Trauma Center in Charlotte. He had taken a 40 caliber hollow point in the mouth. The bullet took out most of one side of his mouth and his teeth is the only thing that saved his life. Blew out all of his teeth and stopped the bullet by inbedding his teeth with the bullet in his throat. He had surgery and a trac. Reconstructive surgery is scheduled when swelling goes down but his is going to live.

So this week they caught the two 16 year olds who were breaking into cars, mostly stealing guns and tools. Seems one had been charged earlier this year. Guess what? One of the guys had joined the community in the watch and lived in the immediate area.

Good thing the window slowed it down a bit. Terrible situation.

Not finding any news on it. Got a link? Wondering how close it would be to me. Been out of town all week and have not heard anything about this.

Never made the news anywhere. Wife's niece is the mother of the young man shot.

Much, much more to the story. It's gets worse. Like made for a book worse. So the mother of the boy shot has remarried a doctor in Burke. He had been sick and wanted to come immediately to the Charlotte hospital. She told him to stay home but he left while on meds. On the way down he is running into signs, guard rails, etc.. 911 is called and he is pulled in the parking lot when he finally stops at the hospital. Cops are on high alert, one with drawn gun. Doctor forgot his belt and pants fall down while being detained. Mother comes out of the hospital to talk to police and tell the story of meds and the accident. To my knowledge no charges were filed.

Gets better. So the doctor goes to the Burke County hospital next day very ill. He gets shipped back to Charlotte Medical Center across town and put in quarantine because something is making his skin peel off. So my wife's niece has a husband at one medical center and a seriously injured son at another. It was a bad, bad two days for her and her family.
Now how this never made the news I have no idea unless someone said let's keep this under the radar. Failed to mention the CDC was investigating the strange illness of the doctor.

This was in the Rhodhis area of Burke.

Gotcha, yeah that's pretty close depending on which side of the river. Hope everyone recovers quick.

Some of the bloodiest stories never make the news.

A few weeks ago here there was a guy who decided that he was going for a showdown with his ex and her new boyfriend armed with a shotgun. On the way the police attempt to stop him for a minor traffic offense, he runs for a short while then stops in an intersection and decides to put the shotgun to his head and pull the trigger. It was loaded with a slug and literally blew his head off.

I kept waiting for that to hit the news but it never did.

All very tragic. I don't mean to seem selfish, but I'm a little concerned about this skin peeling illness. ?? o_O

ETA - Another startle response?

Except for the skin peeling illness all of this drama could have been prevented with a little common sense.

Everything about this accidental shooting reals of stupidity. Sleeping in the car with a gun in your hand, coming up on a person knowing he is armed without warning, and enticing your kid to be a part of policing while armed. Heard he stood up today so that's promising news. Word is he will have a multitude of surgeries of the year to replace tissue, bones, and teeth.

Father will have to live with this for the rest of his life. Very sad but again ignorant in my view. Why is to blame? Both.

There is a young man in the Catawba County jail right now who went to a gathering and got into a fight. He went to the car and got a gun and came back, where upon his friend said "there he is" and he fired. Only problem was it was not the guy who had beat him up. He shot he wrong person. Now he will go away for a very long time and an innocent guy is dead.

And the anti's rack up another victory for their side. :(

+1

Whenever I meet someone for a transaction and they are in a vehicle and don't see me approaching, I get their attention from a few feet away, rather than knock on the window and startle them.

I always text to make sure they know I'm there. And usually wait until they acknowledge me before closing on their vehicle.
