I've just recently started looking at accessories and upgrades for my ARs.
I'm looking at compensators and it seems like they're all muzzle brakes as well.
I'd like to have something that didn't have the side blast of a brake. Any suggestions?

interested in this as well, trying to decide if I want to do a comp or a flash hider on my 556 and what would be good.

No side blast? Then a flash hider is the only option.

The gasses are ported on a break and they got to go somewhere.

I will update my site this week with more breaks and Flash hiders if you can hold out a bit.

I think the ask is for a hider with some vertical ports before the hider proper. Not a brake to reduce recoil, just a comp to reduce muzzle rise. There must be something like that.

What about a hybrid?

Best of both worlds maybe?

VG6 Epsilon comes to mind. Still loud but cuts flash and not as loud as some brakes.

I could put up with a little side blast but I've put a brake on one of my pistols that's miserable. I think it has the potential to blow out your contacts when you pull the trigger lol.

I'd just like to find something functional that didn't blow the neighbors hat off.

LOL, yeah that brake on a pistol is going to be.....unpleasant.....even for people driving by a mile away!

This is what I have on my comp rifle, it works very well but is definitely a brake (read: side blast).
There aren't many pure comps out there. If you really direct all of that force downward, you'll push the muzzle way down. You need a combo of a comp and linear comp, which I've never seen.

The Griffin I linked only has three little top ports and the rest out the front. Would be surprised if it did much.

On the heels of the comparison @Booger posted. I will say my FSC556 works pretty well and gets far less complaints than my Checkmate. Course it also has 4" more barrel.

I love my surefire procomp. they can be had for about 50 bucks too.

Most comps vent most of the gas sideways and just a little upward (relatively). Too much muzzle downforce is a problem too, and feels very strange!

Can always drill holes out larger until you get where you want to with your ammo.

I have a battlecomp on a 16" gun and that suits my needs just fine. I recently picked up an upper with a nordic components corvette comp. It looks kinda funky to me, ill be curious to see how it works. These two muzzle devices are my first foray into the comp world. Its always been good ol a2 flash hiders for me.

Agreed on the FSC556. I had one on a 14.5" LMT and it worked very well while not being obnoxious.

Just stay away from the Miculek, JP, Titan style brakes.
