so I currently have grip tape on my Glock 35 gen 4 limited gun. I like it but after a while it always seems to come loose and I have to replace it. I have looked into sanding down the stock grip texture to make the tape stick better. I’ve looked into stippling, costing around $200. Then I came across silicone carbide grip texture online. So these are my 3 options, 4 if I just shoot it stock. Leaning towards stippling.... would like to know more about this silicone carbide. Thoughts?

Tagged for interest,, I held a pistol like the one I shoot last week with talon grip tape and it felt great.

Talon grit is great, Ben Stoeger grip tape is good less coverage less money, but both need a pretty smooth surface to stick to. Alcohol wipes and a heat gun help with adhesion.

Stippling done right is not pretty, grips like nothing else, but eventually the sharp points wear off, then what?

Silicone carbide I haven't owned, seems ideal. Has as much or more grip than grip tape and if you don't go crazy with surface prep can supposedly be chipped/scrapped off later. And sometimes it even looks decent. Thinking of doing the 17 in it when I grind off the finger bumps and undercut it.

@Slappy McTrigger is kinda trying some different stuff now and is wanting to do some of the silicon carbide, so he prob has a good opinion on this.

IMO, Metal checkering is best, so I think frame stippling is going to be best for a poly gun. Very aggressive is best. It has to handle very sweaty and very humid for match shooting in summer. This is where rubber like the Talons starts to feel slippery sometimes. Where you are constantly back on the gun.
Although I love the rubber on a carry gun.

You may also try some grip chalk/fluid, which a lot of shooters use. Can be found in tennis stores and whatnot. Really improves grip on the gun!

@Cmercaldo maybe can enlighten us what he uses.

That’s a good point. That actually why Slappy is looking at the SC, because his stipled STI grip has worn a bit.

I'm not shooting competition but can say that the granulate Talons make a huge difference in my ability to maintain good control of a gun. I found some skateboard tape that appears to be the same material so I'm going to try making my own. You can buy enough tape for dozens of guns for $5 or $6.

Take a look at Brooks Tactical Agrip. It is the best grip I have ever used and I’m really surprised it’s not more popular. It’s a felt type material that really provides excellent traction and doesn’t tear up your skin if you rub it. The best part about it is that if your hands get wet from sweat, blood or whatever, it grips even better. I use it on all my guns now, competition, HD and my EDC.

I am leaning to stippling

is it more of a grip tape texture or a rubber texture?

Neither. It is a soft “felt” type. Kind of like the tactical fuzz g-code puts on their holsters, or like Safariland lines the inside with

With Silicon Carbide you have an option of different grit.
With Stippling you can use different tips to achieve different levels of grippy

What’s that hand stuff you use?

Yup. Started off aggressive but over time lost a lot of its bite. Wanting to try SC with a super aggressive grit. I dry fire enough that I’m not worried about the feels. Ultimately, I’d love to go metal, particularly SV’s because they have an extra wide version, but don’t have an extra grand burning a hole in my pocket at the moment.

Certainly not after that last gun order! LMAO.
