Competitive Shooting Goals for 2017

My 2017 was a huge disappointment. Between having a forearm injury for 8 months and then modifying my trigger finger with the table saw, I am not at all happy with my year.

I went back and looked at what I sent Lucas in December about what I wanted to accomplish this year. I sent this after my first ever competition in Dec 2016 - which happened to be the DPRC 2-gun Rimfire match. I wanted to place top 3 in my division by July and top 3 overall by end of the year.

I think I blew my goals out of the water:
At DPRC - x5 Limited wins / x1 open wins / x3 overall wins
At the NC State rimfire games - 2nd in open and limited
At the NSSF World's I took home 13th (limited) and 14th (open) overall - earning a 3rd place limited plaque
I've also shot 3 steel challenge matches this year - and earned 3 GM classifications and am 0.4 away from my forth.

I think 2018 will be a lot more rimfire shooting, but I will probably try to make it out to some Zombie/USPSA matches. I have a PCC and a couple new pistols (G34 and PPQ Q5) that's itching for some steel challenge and USPSA matches too.

Don’t think I really set any goals at the beginning of the year. I mainly just wanted to learn USPSA in 2017. I think I accomplished that for the most part. I will say that I enjoy the game a lot less right now than I did at this time last year. That’s unfortunate, but true.

I do have a goal for 2018, however. Have fun! I will never get paid to play the games so it’s not worth stressing about. I enjoy the game a whole lot more when I just let go and shoot. This however is extremely difficult for me to do in all facets of life. I’m a competitor, not necessarily with other people, more so with myself. I demand that I perform at the top of my current level of skill at all times. This inevitably induces the aforementioned stress.

I also plan to take a few long range classes or two in 2018. I may never compete in PRS, but I want to learn how.

I'm happy with how things have gone for me thus far in 2017. My goal is to place in the top 25 at the NSSF World Rimfire Championship in the Open division. Also hope to place in the top 15 for Limited. Those are extremely ambitions goals. Too ambitious, more than likely.

Well I was wrong. It wasn't too ambitious. Ended up 15th in Open and 10th in Limited at the World Championships.

Folks, if I can reach my goals, you can too. I've had so many health issues over the years it's a wonder I'm still around. Severe arthritis. Heart surgery. And other chronic conditions. Plus I'm a big fat bastard.

If it hurts, so what? Do it anyway. If you move real slow then so be it. At least you're moving. Make up for it somewhat by pulling the trigger faster and hitting what you're aiming at.

Do not go gentle into that good night. Get pissed off instead and shoot some matches. They're fun and you get to meet other delightful degenerates like yourself.

Well unless something comes up I should have made it to one match this year. That a 100% improvement over last year lol

I achieved none of my goals for 2017. I pretty much lost interest about half way through the year. I finally realized that i am not willing to spend the time and money that i need to improve.
I enjoy the matches but not the standing around all day. I plan to only shoot Rowan primarily because i enjoy the people there.
As far as 2018 goes i have several goals set already but none of them are shooting related.

You will always be welcome and have a spot at Rowan.

Don't remember what my goals were. I think

Gawd, you have been slaughtering people. Was looking at your practiscore the other day. Very impressive ascension. The overall lever of rimfire shooting at DPRC has gone through the roof. Everyone has gotten waaaay better, which makes your finishes even more impressive.

Can't wait to see you shoot some centerfire stuff!!

HAHA - thanks dude. I can say pretty confidently that I've shot more rounds this year then every other year combined. I hate doing anything halfway, and being surrounded by the talent in this area pushed me to practice a ton. Definitely have to be on your game recently - there's 4-5 people that could win on any given Saturday.

I'm pretty sure that the centerfire stuff is going to have a WAY steeper learning curve then the rimfire. There's all this moving, reloading, and other crap to worry about now. :) Probably going to start it slow in steel challenge and work up to USPSA/Zombie stuff.

It's a little steeper, but it's not going to be a problem with your attitude and practice ethic. Just more fun stuff to work on.

Jump into USPSA with both feet! You won’t look back. Just visualize what you need to do and then execute.

1. Save up for a production rig, I do not like shooting limited minor.
2. Shoot a 3 gun match.
3. develop a consistent dry fire routine.
4. Get at least 3 new people out to a match.
