I have a horizontal 35 gallon tank, 150psi, 110v compressor. I’m thinking this thing may be undersized to use my “new to me” blast cabinet. should I upgrade my compressor?

some parameters…
220v is NOT an option (limited to 110v)
cabinet is an ALC 40391

If needed, I’ll have to a text up to finally install 220v and buy a larger compressor and **actually** use my Miller 210!

60 gallon 5hp is about as minimum as you will want to go for a blast cabinet.

That being said. There are 110v scroll air compressors that will do what you want. But price is way on up there

35 gallon on a small compressor is not near enough capacity. Electrical voltage should not be a concern when making these decisions if you have breaker space/capacity. Running wire or conduit is not expensive.

7-20 cfm / 80-110 psi. Is what that cabinet requires.

So at a minimum, you’ll need a compressor that will supply 7cfm @ 80 psi. .
That’s your starting point. Most likely it’s going to be a 220v. Compressor... or at least I’d want it to be and save some amps for the lights in the shop.

Do you have space in your breaker box for a 220V breaker?
If so, do yourself a favor and run 220V to the garage for a compressor and the welder.

Thank me very much.

You can purchase another 120 volt air compressor and run it in tandem with your current compressor. This will give you more cfm air volume and more capacity.

Following as I've been researching the same.
I've pretty much narrowed my search down to one of the least expensive Ingersall Rand T-30 models.
More than I really want to pay, but we've had a larger T-30 in the shop for 15 years of daily use and it has never failed us.

Thanks for all the replies. I’ll get pics of my panel to the electrician. Unless he can do some magic, I’m looking at needing a sub panel.

You are making the right call.

My 30cfm compressor runs almost constantly when I’m using my bead blaster. If I were you, I’d want at least 15cfm at 80 psi for a smaller cabinet, and more is better.
