Concealed carry renewal experiences

Actually just looked the email they sent me...said it would be up to 90 days and I had emailed them on day 59 and further emails may slow the process. 90 days!? For a renewal? Countries have lasted less time.

Further emails don't "slow the process". The process is independent of any email system or activity...either they're processing the application, or they're not processing the application.

If the process gets slowed because someone is asking into the status, it's because some vindictive sh*t on a power trip is physically interfering with the process in order to slow it down.

The phrase "don't snow the snowman" comes to mind here.

wife has to renew hers.. Iredell county, can fill the paperwork on line, and pick out a day to bring the form and sign it there, makes you pay online, adds a 2.00 something credit card fee and 4.00 "convenience" fee, not sure if she can just bring money w/her..

Henderson county NC, renewed October 2016. Docs submilled and payment online, Sheriff dept sent me a text message and email two weeks later telling me permit was ready to pick up.

UPDATE:

Went through the mail when I got back home this month. My CWP was waiting for me, postage dated 1/30/2017. That would put it at about 5 weeks turnaround, or so, from SLED.

In Greensboro I filled out the form and paid online.Set the date for the appointment, and when I went in to get the paperwork they signed they notarized it on the spot very quick and efficient. They mailed me the card a couple weeks later. Slick as KY Jelly.

I noticed a big sign over the cell where my finger prints were being taken years go . It said : No weapons past this point.

I didn't see that until I was leaving , and cringed thinking about the pocket knife in my pocket.

I've made sure to leave knives in the truck since that point, when visiting the Sheriff's office...there's a metal detector there now at the entry.

Forsyth County's Finest just called me this week to let me know my renewal was ready. Almost 2 months to the day since I dropped it off with my $80. I will mention that it may have been faster without the Christmas/New Year's Holiday.

Im in NC
Last time I renewed it took a few minutes and a few bucks and a bit of a wait to get it in.
Also, I went to get mine renewed right before it expired, they said that I'd be fine carrying the 'old' one since I'd already filed for a new one, that should I get stopped it'd be fine.

Told me the same thing! 135 days later I got my new CC license. That's OK if you stay in NC, but what if you go outside of the state? Does TN consider if expired and take you in? How about VA? If you say 90 days, do 90 days and get it back to me BEFORE it runs out!

Well I cant answer those questions, but I assume that its on the record that youve applied for renewal etc.
I was once pulled over, this was about 8 years ago, and gave the officer my license but not my CCP
Well Im sitting there and it hits me, so I grab my wallet (in the passengers seat) and start waving my arm out the window to get his attention.
He walks up and before I could say anything, with wallet in right hand, says, "You forgot your CCP"

So they/he knew that I had one
Maybe they can keep up with who has applied for renewal too, even in other states. I dont know.

Harnett County NC took about 60 days for renewal. I had to go to the Sheriffs office to drop off and pick up.

Curious...is Meck Co still notifying people with these ridiculously "unprivate" post cards? Is it common across the state, or just here?

That's my wife's from a couple years ago. I don't think I got one like that five years ago, but mine expires in July (already have appt set for April). Curious if GRNC ever fought this battle over privacy concerns. (It was her initial permit, so maybe it's not done for renewals anyway?)

Our county doesn't do that crap. I would be down at the Sheriff's office raising hell. Ours is all over email.

So in Wake County do we have to go down to the courthouse to renew in person? Or can we do it online?

Go online, fill out the forms, print out seven pages of forms but don't sign them. While online, make an appointment (in December 2016, I had to wait three weeks for the first available appointment). Go downtown, hand the nice lady your forms, out the door in about ten minutes. Permit arrived in the mail six weeks after that, no second trip downtown.

I just renewed, more than 90 days prior to expiration. The online system said there were no available appointments before expiration, so I called the WCSO. The nice lady on the other end said to come to their office, use their computer, and they'd work me in. Outside of the PITA of having to actually go to downtown Raleigh, it was very simple. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.

BigWaylon ...Wake doesn't send cards to tell you your permit is ready, they just mail the permit. What they do that I don't like is mail a reminder card that your expiration date is approaching, which is just as bad as the card you got. It lets everyone in the USPS, and anyone that may steal/check your mail, know that you have a permit and there are probably guns in your house.

My Utah out of state permit initiated a reminder about 8 weeks out. Payment was rendered as well as whatever form...I had the new permit a week after my account was debited for the fee. Very fast and efficient

Funny you should ask that...I was going through a ton of old mail, giving the shredder a workout, when just ran across my SLED notification reminding me I was 120 days away from expiration on my CWP and to start my renewal at the 90 day point.

It was a postcard style notification.

Yes

Got my notification that my permit is ready in Mecklenburg County on 3/17/17. Applied for renewal on 12/13/16.
Are they still sending the postcards for approval notification?

Mine expires in mid-July and I go 4/7 to apply. I got the expiration notification by postcard, but wasn't sure if they did email or something else to let you know it's ready.

3 months is ridiculous...but at least that means mine would come back before the current one expires, in case I need to buy something.

davidson co nc
i had back counted expiration date and knew first of march was in time frame to begin process.
printed renewal forms from on-line resource and determined process to apply.
was 'waiting' for an opportune time to apply and in the interim received a renewal notice via mail.. (sealed envelope)

03 march, visited office, signed papers, paid renewal fee.
16 march, phone call to home to notify permit ready, visited office on way to lunch, couple more forms to sign, picked up laminated permit
good till 2022

At least Guilford County just sends a sealed envelope that is marked as being from the sheriff.

Just submitted mine for Durham County. Got the reminder post card monday, saw I could apply on line, so I did. Paid and had a choice of just about any day this week for an appointment. Chose 9am today, went in and was out of there about 5 minutes after getting there. In the office, sign 3 forms and I was done. They are quoting 45 days on a renewal, hopefully, they will send it but I doubt it. How else can they pay for the new digs?

I went ahead and set my appointment in April, just inside the 90-day window for my July expiration. Figured I'd post this tidbit of info for your entertainment:

Fingers crossed I can keep my mouth shut if they ask a stupid question about the process...especially since I'll have an empty holster in my belt. o_O

ETA: other than paying $75 to exercise a right, it was fairly painless. 3-4 minutes...no line, just handed him the paperwork and cash, he signed a couple spots and marked where I had to sign and date. Quick raising of right hand to "swear" it was all correct to the best of my knowledge (which was kinda odd standing there at the counter), got a receipt for the payment and headed out.

I had the same experience except for being quoted 90 days. I do not appreciate the post card and will ask them to not send one in the future.

Union County NC-my CCW expired 12/1/16. got the postcard notice to renew in August last year. printed off docs online, got them notarized and turned in in early September. Exactly 90 days later, I got a call to come pick up the renewal.

Wife renewed hers in December 2016. She got the call in mid March, over 90 days later.

I'm not sure if the process is any different than when I renewed mine about 10 months ago. I live in Wake County and didn't make an appointment just drove down there. The nice woman at the desk told me to use the computer kiosk in the lobby to fill out the renewal stuff. I filled that out, paid on that computer and it printed off the form in their office. I went in signed it and had my new permit in about 14 days.

Also what I was told when I did that is even if your current CHP expires you can still carry. If a LEO runs your information it says it will be in a renewal process. Just can't purchase anything.

mine is due to exp in june. I opened my work e-mail moday with a friendly reminder.
I paid the cumberland county fee, scheduled an appt for 05 may 17.
they remonded me to make sure i have the dd214, so she said it should be on file.

We Shall See
