Not sure what they'd use this for or need it for but here are your tax dollars at work

I cant think of anything that could happen that would require the "police" to come in with that.

If anything that pops off that requires that equipment, we are gonna need more than Barney and Deputy Dog

I have no issues with our police being able to remain safe in dangerous situations but this does seem like overkill to me. Seems like they could refit a brinks armored truck for a lot cheaper and still have the same protection without looking like they are serving warrants in frickin Afghanistan.

That possibly may be one of the surplus vehicles donated to the town by the military. I saw several of those in Rock Hill about 6 months ago being painted black and prepped for police use. All of them were going to police depts around the Carolinas. All were donated at no cost to the towns they ended up in.

I'm in the same boat.

This thing looks awesome so I can understand why someone with a budget would want to buy one, but they should also realize that this is Concord, not Durahm, Fayetteville, or more fittingly DC, Chicago, or Oakland. Given the riots we've seen, I could see most major cities getting a heavy duty APC but again, this seems like a bit of overkill unless they got a smoking deal from the .Mil.

Yeah, I think many PDs across the country are getting milsurp vehicles for free. But the PDs have to pay to equip and maintain these vehicles - I wonder if they are getting a decent return on that taxpayer investment.

As with all weapons, if the government has them, they'll find a use for them.

In that case, it's hard to argue with. I care a heck of a lot more about the bottom dollar than perception and someone's feelings.

Still our tax dollars. I guess we should be happy then—tax dollars being stretched and recycled.

And @Bailey Boat beat me to it: it’s clearly says “RESCUE.” It’s for RESCUE-ing you...from Godzilla or something.

I want to say “why the hell do you need that?” But it just feels wrong. Because they now have the best toy on the block and I wouldn’t take it away before they even get to play with it.

They handle blasts and gunfire fine, wouldn't a couple of Molotov Cocktails have the folk inside scurrying out like a bumped ant hill?

There’s a similar one for a county sheriff’s department in my area...don’t think it’s been moved in 2 years. Probably won’t even crank if they were to need it. Guess it would be good for running over mobile meth labs???

Here's a novel idea.
Instead of toys...how about putting more cruisers on the road?
I know. A dumb idea. You'll hafta forgive me I've always been more about preventative maintenance rather than crisis management.

I could actually conceive of circumstances where it would be indispensable. An officer or citizen pinned down without cover enabling extraction and/or high-risk, violent felon apprehension are a couple that could happen anywhere no matter how sleepy your little burg normally is.

Besides, having this kind of capability along with some of the other toys they give out widely distributed throughout the country could be - shall we say - fortuitous.

I believe Henderson county has one similar to that. Were you here when the sheriff had the helicopter? Thankfully that one didn't last long.

And not to mention the fact that they aren’t free. Nothing that taxes paid for is free. We paid for that vehicle. It should have been auctioned off when the military had no further use for it.

YOu left some stuff out lol.

Side note, that looks to be a converted MAX Pro, and them sum bitches are garbage.

Yep, looks like a Maxx Pro Dash ... as to garbage they are like a garbage can a roll real easy and maneuvering in one sucks. For parades and “community awareness fairs” they make great show trucks but for practical use I’ll say smaller BearCats are so much more applicable for LEOs.

I live in Concord and I don't mind the PD having an RV for a couple of reasons.

It is better for the local PD to get the vehicle rather than it being left in the Middle East for some ragheads to use against Americans.

I also had a change of heart after seeing news reports and video of a Florida PD (I think from Miami Beach) using a milsurp RV to rescue a woman who was having a baby during a hurricane.

Ok, to be a little bit of an asshat and a little devil's advocate:

If we don't have an people or assets in the Middle East then the bad guys can take our stuff. Simple.

If we are going to buy equipment for every emergency that could possibly happen then it will never end. Should we have submarines on local lakes in case they are ever needed for a boating accident? How about helicopters and planes? Can't have too many of them right? We might have to airlift 1000's of people in a storm!

You can justify any insanity with bizarre anecdotes.

Your taxes have already paid for the military to buy the vehicles; the only question now is what to do with them.

Be constructive. What would you do with the vehicles? Abandon them in a foreign country? Give or sell them to "allies." Sell them as scrap? Pay to maintain them in storage? ???

At any rate, Concord is not even near the forefront of equipment usage.

Winston has a BearCat too. (at least one)

I could see situations where it would be useful, but it's rare (ie: San Berandino, all the heavy equipment they had on scene as they approached the vehicle)

Just look back to the Boston Marathon incident, whole lot of hardware, plus new helicopters and armored transports.
Reminds me of RoboCop II.

The weakness of these types of vehicles was clearly shown in what I consider to be one of the greatest Christmas movies of all times....

How about a novel approach? Don't keep going to foreign countries and using said vehicles. And if that particular vehicle is good for the Concord Police why isn't it still functionable for the military? Seems like we're simply running a tax payer funded purchasing program for the manufacturers of military equipment. Grant them to cities and states and order more, more, more. But hey, their cool military vehicles so we gotta like them right. Big manly machines that run over things and help armored men kill people. Cool.

And people cowering in their homes. I was up there that week. People were freaked out. There was a minor car crash in front of a Dunkin Donuts I was at one morning and people were diving under tables. Hillarious.

I cannot disagree with staying out of foreign wars or not buying stuff that is unneeded long before it is worn out. But those excellent ideas do not answer the question of what to do with stuff left over from past mistakes.

Hey it should prevent the death of several dogs. They can run that thing up into the house and save them from all of these viscous dogs running around.

If it still works why isn't it in military operations? Why do they grant it to cities and states? Hhhmmm, $$$$$$.

5 gallon bucket roadside EFP anyone?

Force begets force. If you want to police us like we're insurgents don't be surprised when we start acting like them.

If they think a bunch of guys who still shit in their hands and can't read are a problem, wait till some pissed off rednecks with science and technology degrees start cooking up surprises for JBT tin cans.

My brother from another mother, very well said. Piss off a redneck and you gotta deal with the whole family.
