I'm in the same boat.I have no issues with our police being able to remain safe in dangerous situations but this does seem like overkill to me. Seems like they could refit a brinks armored truck for a lot cheaper and still have the same protection without looking like they are serving warrants in frickin Afghanistan.
Yeah, I think many PDs across the country are getting milsurp vehicles for free. But the PDs have to pay to equip and maintain these vehicles - I wonder if they are getting a decent return on that taxpayer investment. That possibly may be one of the surplus vehicles donated to the town by the military. I saw several of those in Rock Hill about 6 months ago being painted black and prepped for police use. All of them were going to police depts around the Carolinas. All were donated at no cost to the towns they ended up in.
In that case, it's hard to argue with. I care a heck of a lot more about the bottom dollar than perception and someone's feelings. That possibly may be one of the surplus vehicles donated to the town by the military. Still our tax dollars. I guess we should be happy then—tax dollars being stretched and recycled. That possibly may be one of the surplus vehicles donated to the town by the military. When they come to collect, just throw some 2x4s on one side of the vehicle and ittle roll over.
Here's a novel idea.
Instead of toys...how about putting more cruisers on the road?
I know. A dumb idea. You'll hafta forgive me I've always been more about preventative maintenance rather than crisis management.

As with all weapons, if the government has them, they'll find a use for them.

YOu left some stuff out lol.
Side note, that looks to be a converted MAX Pro, and them sum bitches are garbage.
I live in Concord and I don't mind the PD having an RV for a couple of reasons.
It is better for the local PD to get the vehicle rather than it being left in the Middle East for some ragheads to use against Americans.
I also had a change of heart after seeing news reports and video of a Florida PD (I think from Miami Beach) using a milsurp RV to rescue a woman who was having a baby during a hurricane.
Ok, to be a little bit of an asshat and a little devil's advocate:
If we don't have an people or assets in the Middle East then the bad guys can take our stuff. Simple.
If we are going to buy equipment for every emergency that could possibly happen then it will never end. Should we have submarines on local lakes in case they are ever needed for a boating accident? How about helicopters and planes? Can't have too many of them right? We might have to airlift 1000's of people in a storm!
You can justify any insanity with bizarre anecdotes.
Your taxes have already paid for the military to buy the vehicles; the only question now is what to do with them.
Be constructive. What would you do with the vehicles? Abandon them in a foreign country? Give or sell them to "allies." Sell them as scrap? Pay to maintain them in storage? ???
At any rate, Concord is not even near the forefront of equipment usage.
Just look back to the Boston Marathon incident, whole lot of hardware, plus new helicopters and armored transports.
Reminds me of RoboCop II.
How about a novel approach? Don't keep going to foreign countries and using said vehicles. And if that particular vehicle is good for the Concord Police why isn't it still functionable for the military? Seems like we're simply running a tax payer funded purchasing program for the manufacturers of military equipment. Grant them to cities and states and order more, more, more. But hey, their cool military vehicles so we gotta like them right. Big manly machines that run over things and help armored men kill people. Cool.
I cannot disagree with staying out of foreign wars or not buying stuff that is unneeded long before it is worn out. But those excellent ideas do not answer the question of what to do with stuff left over from past mistakes.
5 gallon bucket roadside EFP anyone?
Force begets force. If you want to police us like we're insurgents don't be surprised when we start acting like them.
If they think a bunch of guys who still shit in their hands and can't read are a problem, wait till some pissed off rednecks with science and technology degrees start cooking up surprises for JBT tin cans.
