on successfully completing the over 2200 mile trek of the entire Appalachian Trail. He started in January and finished yesterday... a solo winter hike. Pretty sure its safe to ask him questions about anything hiking related! I'm not sure how old Mike is, but he is of retirement age. I've been following his hike on the book of faces...It been exciting just reading about his journey and seeing his pictures.

I bet he put on long pants when he got in Northern Maine (my hometown is very close to Mt Katahdin.) Hiked it many times in my youth.

Quite an adventure, I'm impressed by anyone who finishes it!

Wow, I didn't realize he solo-ed it. Impressive indeed!

Dang... F the idea that retirement = death, huh? That's some livin' right there...

Awesome job, good example for us!!

Congrats, Michael.

Mike is a retired Army SGM. He left in January and immediately started running into bad weather, rain, snow and ice. His dog was going with him but in November he jumped out the window of the moving truck and broke a leg so Mike went by himself. Pretty impressive!

I bought my first ar from this guy. His shop is a good drive from here at home and I've only been a hand full of times but one of those times I took the wife and my middle daughter when she was around 8 months old. The place was empty except for my family, he, his son, and dog. Mike had his pup playing and doing tricks for a good thirty minutes and it was the first time we had ever heard my daughter laugh, which lasted the entire time she was playing with his dog. One if those times you never forget. I would recommend him and his family's gun shop to anyone and everyone, he's a real stand up guy in my book.

I know a couple folks that have done it, and always wanted to myself. I've hiked one decent section of it, Fontana lake to Nantahala. The trail is no joke. PUDS, pointless ups and downs. In a lot of places it's intentional routed OVER every summit instead of around them. Some of that is changing but still a very tough hike. Very cool. And unlike most "solo" hikers, I bet he was alone a considerable amount with that schedule. Normally you may be hiking solo, but you are surrounded by the same hikers for days at a time. Until he started meeting south bounders I bet it was pretty quite.

I have done sections, and the trail in its entirety is no joke. Balls. He has 'em.

Same here I have done several AT sections and a 15-20 mile section in a day in mountainous terrain will stress anyone. Think about doing that daily for weeks......Good for him.
