Why do I need an AR-based pistol? If your argument is strong, which caliber should it fun?

I don't have one and am thinking that I should consider one...but not certain why.

Reason 1: avoid SBR crap. Let’s face it, the braces are just fine. They do what they do, and don’t look terrible. So they take a bit longer to adjust, who cares.

Reason 2. They are freakin fun! Small, compact, accurate, 30 rounds of “get off my lawn!”

Reason 3. They are awesome for self defense sub 200-300 yards...which means excellent at home defense ranges. All the goodness of an SBR, none of the weight and cost. Small enough to manage in confined spaces.

Reason 4. Can conceal them in a car and cross state lines with them.

Reason 5. Screw da man.

As far as caliber? I have a .223/5.56 and a .300BO and they are both fun. My .300BO is going to be my suppressor host/hunting gun/truck gun.

Someone on here called them "baby dragons" and that made me really want one. Lol
I have a 7.5" .556 with a SBA3 brace and it elicits grins and giggles from everyone who shoots it. I have an 8.5 300 blackout and a 30 round mag in a spartan mount for home defence. Love my AR pistols!!

Oh and I also have a CMMG drop in .22 conversion that is insanely fun to plink and squirrel hunt with in a 10.5" upper.

So the next question is .300blk or .223/5.56 with a drop in .22LR conversion? Either is fine... I just want to do it once.

Here’s a “for” argument.

I had a lower, MBUS sights, and a Bushnell TRS-25, along with some Magpul lower bits and a PSA polished trigger in my box.

Then PSA put those 10.5” pistol kits on sale for $269.

I never intended to have an AR pistol. But now I do.

Other than the fact they are just plain fun to build and shoot and lay down a bunch of firepower in a very compact platform .....I cannot think of any other reason to build these things.

The obvious and only answer is 2 uppers, one of each. Duh.

If you reload and have a 30 cal suppressor then 300BLK is a no brainer, but that isn’t you or you wouldn’t have asked.

223 is cheaper, 300 has heavier, slower bullets. Both fun.

simple. If you reload, then .300blk is insanely flexible and fun with the amount of .308 diameter projectiles and weights. From mild to wild, its a great fun gun. But if you start buying ammo then it will lose it's luster REAL quick compared to .223 or .22lr.

You can't have just one upper for a pistol, I think it's a law now or something. Get both. They're cheaper than ever now.

With lowers in the $50 range it just crazy not to get one.

I have lowers.... that's not a issue...

The obvious answer is one of each.

.300 BLK doesn't suffer velocity loss as bad in shorter barrels and is quite a formidable antipersonnel round out of a 10.5 inch barrel.

That all being said, with a 1:7 twist and a good heavy for caliber bullet the .223 works as well.

Either will outperform any handgun round and as already noted can legally be concealed in NC with a CHP.

Why build one when you can have two at twice the price?

Both 5.56 with PSA blem uppers & lowers, bcgs, Magpul afg2 and sights. The 10.5 will work with my Omega.

With a $50 lower and a PSA pistol kit for $270 I'm in the game. I have a rear sight I can swap and I'm ready to go.

As for PSA shipping. I ordered the Sunday before Christmas and got it delivered the Friday after Christmas. Six days including a holiday. I'm happy.

The more pistol ARs are in the mainstream the weaker the argument for the NFA gets. Remember all the fudds and butters warning against the SIG brace "loophole" a while back, then the attempt at banning M855 since they can be fired out of an AR pistol?

Funny....I dont hear that BS much at all anymore

I never wanted an AR pistol until the SB3 brace came out, now that I can adjust the brace on the fly I am a total convert and love shooting mine.

I went with a 7 1/2” 300 Blk and I am simply amazed at how well the dang thing shoots, I’ve only shot out to 100 yards with mine but so far it’s been way better than MOB (minute of bad guy) accurate.
