A friend purchased a Coonan 357 1911 second hand and quickly discovered the tip of the firing pin was broken off. Apparently this is one of the non-standard (with 1911) parts. Does anyone know 1) are there any sources for Coonan parts other than Coonan and 2) is this firing pin the same as any other 1911, e.g. 9mm? I know he will be contacting Coonan as soon as he can, but I found the lack of parts available from the usual sources somewhat disheartening.

I have no idea. The Coonan is a bit of an odd duck for sure. Tagged to hear what you find out since there has been one on my "want" list for a loooong time.

I have a Coonan .357 Mag. I'm quite certain that the firing pin will not interchange with any other 1911 variant. According to Coonan's website in their FAQ section, the firing pin is not listed as one of the 19 parts of a Coonan 1911 that are the same as a standard 1911.

Obviously it's a paperweight...how much? :)

Well at least one is comming and for free at that. Good luck with it, I have been interested in those. How about a range report when you get it going.

I had two Coonan Model Bs in the past. Took one to West Germany in 88' and first weekend walked to the range from the Kaserne. Had picked up two boxes of CCI 125gr JSP (no HPs allowed in Germany at the time) Blazer aluminum cased ammo (so I wouldn't have to chase my brass in the snow, 2' on ground). For some reason had the 25m range to myself. Loaded 5 rounds into the mag and first round had a case rupture! Inside of chamber was flamed cut at the 9 oclock. Sent pictures and case to CCI and Coonan. CCI paid for the two boxes of ammo and for a new complete upper from Coonan. I remember talking to Gerri at Coonan (met her and Dan at couple of SHOT shows back in the 80-90s). Mailed the upper back to Coonan and got a new complete upper back with some checkered grips since my others and also split. I suggest you contact Coonan for the firing pin. I used to shoot ISPC with mine in the early 90s and hunt with it.

Coonan can sometimes be slow but their customer service is usually pretty good. We had a customer who's son's company did casting work for them and he had a couple of their offerings. IIRC his firing pin lost the tip too and they mailed a new one right out.
