Could we be seeing better competition guns from Ruger?

It'll be interesting. Koenig captaining their team says to me that their sights are set on something reasonable, otherwise I don't think someone of his caliber would have walked away from his contract with S&W.

They've been soliciting feedback from IDPA shooters on what they'd like to see in a competition gun, very similarly to the way they got feedback from long range shooters before they knocked it out of the park with the Ruger Precision Rifle. I've got high hopes that we'll see something decent from them.

I'd love to watch Doug shoot a match or even just a stage with my P-95.

I hadn't heard much about Doug last few years?
He's legit though, no doubt about that!

Will indeed be interesting to see what kind of guns come out of it. I'm a fan of their stuff, especially their .22 auto loaders. But their centerfire striker pistols never did it for me. Had an SR9 and didn't bond with it.
I guess first off we'll see a Koenig model 1911 of some sort.

Undoubtably, Ruger is making moves lately!

..... something about the indian and arrow come to mind.....

and Ruger will always be blasé

Signing DK tells you exactly what their strategy is: Shock and Awe. A well executed plan of timely product introductions that are reasonably priced and high quality. Now, they will move on to their pistols since the hedgehog is turning on the Centerfire Precision, Rimfire Precision and AR Variant.

But but but they have a Max Michel model....
if only max shot that model.... It is a good shooting pistol. I actually have one and use it for SS division. but the only thing the 'max model' comes with is set of different grips (which get changed out) and a dawson magwell.... It does have adjustable sights, but the factory front sight height does take up quite a bit when trying to fit in the box.

He's been kicking ass at Bianchi the past few years, iirc.

Ruger might be trying to expand into the competition arena but they aren't gonna do it on the Doug Koenig name. His area of expertise where his name is known - the Bianchi Cup - is way too limited. It is a niche shooting game. Name a club that shoots the full NRA Action Pistol / Bianchi Cup course of fire, including the mover. Damned few and far between, they are.

Which is a shame. I shot the game 25 years ago and loved it, don't get me wrong. I think as an accuracy demanding game it is a great foundation for any pistol shooter. Unfortunately, there are just not enough followers of that discipline, or of Doug Koenig, to have much of an impact on firearm sales.

For a top tier shooter to actually generate sales for his or her sponsor they have to have their name and face in front of the broadest possible market and make people say, "Oooh, I want to buy that gun so I can be just like him". Bianchi is not that market. And Koenig was no star at IPSC (USPSA for you younger guys) back when he did shoot it in the '90's (which is why he focused on Bianchi) so I doubt he would go back to that game to try to influence potential customers.

Which leaves IDPA. Maybe he will try to plant his flag there and get those guys to follow him to Ruger. Or maybe Ruger is going to market a kick-ass, "dominate the Bianchi Cup" gun. That should generate a couple dozen sales.

I'm probably being kinda harsh here and may ruffle some feathers but the "action" games of USPSA and IDPA are where the competition gun customers are and a company that has never been known in those games has hired a shooter who has never been known in those games to be its "face". Good luck with that.

Just my two cents.

To be honest, despite hanging out on gun forums all day and consuming all things gun related like a glutton, I honestly thought Biachi Cup no longer existed.
Thought it was long gone or almost gone like PPC. I only know him from youtube instructional videos, and from hearing his name years ago. Knew he is a good shooter.

Compelling food for thought!!

Is it possible he is the only "name" ruger could get to come on board. And he could be more of a mentor/team captain type guy to some up and coming shooters in the more popular games? If your starting your team from the ground up, you need the grizzled, veteran, old wizard type guy right?

Wtf? Olhasso the revolver guy? Well. This could get interesting. Wonder if that is how they telegraph a competition revolver?

Hey...maybe they could actually make it so that, UNlike the S&W out of the Derpformance Center, the dang thing:

- Is timed correctly
- Has the right gap between cylinder and forcing cone
- Has the right amount of relief for the moon clip
- Has a correctly clocked barrel in the frame. As in 12 o’clock so the front sight isn’t at, say, 11:30
- Etc.

But perhaps I am getting my hopes up.

Correctly clocked barrels are overrated.
Most people shoot low left.
So it compensates for that. And, they don't even charge you extra for it. I mean, extra on top of PC pricing...

Ruger's definitely been putting out a lot of very cool new guns lately. Them getting serious about competition is a good thing, IMO. I got to shoot a buddy's GP-1oo Match Champion & really, really liked it. Damned nice wheel gun.

I dont see Matt Wolffs name on that list, whats up with that? Holdin out mo money?
I signed him on last week as the first CFF Shooting Sports Ambassador. He just doesnt know he was signed
