Coyotes

There are certain baits & ways of deploying them that work everytime. But some are squeamish of live bait. And of course the legality is blurry.

Some friends just goats. Miniatures or something like that. They are on about 7 acres south or Raleigh. Just goats in the pen with about a 4' fence. Woods on three sides. No donkey or anything else. How long until they go out in the morning and find carnage? They said they are adding a Llama or Alpaca maybe. Something that would keep the coyotes away, but not for a month or so.

We have 3 goats in north eastern Chatham county (east side of Jordan Lake). I know there are coyotes around - we have heard them, but never seen them. Our neighbors thru the woods behind us say they see them a lot.
We got our goats as babies (had to bottle feed them), and when they were that small, we locked them in their house at night. They now weigh 150-200 pounds and we don't lock them in. We have a Great Pyrenees (livestock guardian dog) who stays out all night, so that helps. We also have chickens.
If they are worried, I'd recommend locking them up at night, at least in some kind of makeshift house (doesn't have to be fancy).

I am not sure they are smart enough to worry, and they haven't built a shelter yet. Just found out they are going away this weekend too.

Coyotes are seen all the time in suburban areas with tons of human smells. There was a yote killed about 3 miles from my house in a neighborhood off of Falls of Neuse road. They are intelligent and adaptable.

You are probably going to have to trap or shoot this one if you want it gone.

Edit: a couple years ago, I nearly hit one with my truck when it ran out in front of me near Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem.

I live about 4.5 miles from Hanes Mall and they are definitely all around this suburban area, deer too.

Collarum? because snares are illegal for anything but beaver.

Oops, to late.
They aren’t afraid of your smell when the smell of all those tasty animals are loading their nostrils.
You should shoot the ones you see and trap the ones you don’t.
Coyotes are land piranhas. They eat what they catch and it matters little to them what it is.

You will never “eradicate” all the yotes, maybe slow their predation during the fawning months but thats all we can hope for.
When can I expect you over?

Your distance from me is prohibitive.

But I am a machine of elimination.
Makes me a sad panda.

Friend of mine is coming by with traps. We lost 2 guineas and a chicken at the point. The chickens are free range and go in their coop at night. We noticed last nights count one was missing. It was just starting to get dark. I didn't find any evidence so it appears to be a coyote. It would have happened near the house which is scary.

I haven’t heard them four about 8 months around here but they were all around the house last night. It’s time to get busy. I have been waiting on them.

Lost a guinea this morning. Based on the feather pile I'm going to assume fox/coyote. Anyone on here want to hunt either?

Saw this guy on the camera a few nights ago. I decided to sit on our pool deck. I didn't call em but figured I'd hang out for a few hours. I didn't see or hear anything. I wish the crop was dead so Id have more sight radius. I'm still debating thermal.

New sightings may be from water levels rising and moving them around. There is a group that runs Muddy Creek bottom from Peace Haven Road.
