Crush N Run

I didn't mean to claim any designation or anyone was "wrong". I was just curious about a nomenclature that I hadn't heard until a few years ago.

Martin Marietta calls it "Product 0585 - ABC". ABC is what I tell them when I want to get what I expected.
See what you did? You got @Tailhunter ALLL riled up.

:p

I’ve heard ABC but mostly crusher run.
Guess it doesn’t matter as long as they don’t laugh at you when you order it.
Laugh right back and blame someone else. Like the boss said.........

Crush and run is when your friends do something stupid and you all end up running.

Crusher run is excellent gravel for a driveway.

Mystery solved.

Crusher run is what I've heard it called up until the last few years, when the new words came along. It is literally what is coming out of the crusher that day, and can vary depending on what they're bringing out of the pit at that time. It will all be 1 1/2" minus, like Simpleman says, but the smaller sieve size amounts can vary quite a bit.

"ABC" is short for Aggregate Base Course, which is the product used under asphalt on most roadway and commercial paving jobs. The NCDOT sets standards for the hardness of the stone and the gradation, and tests the product to make sure it meets those standards before it can be sold as ABC. Generally ABC is higher than crusher run, but not always, depending on the quarry.

rdinatal shows the requirements for the sieve analysis, which varies some state to state and even in different parts of NC. They are all pretty close, but vary depending on the stone, especially the density.

Lots of the time, crusher run doesn't meet ABC specs, and the quarry will blend in what is needed to get the sieve analysis to DOT specs.
