Does anyone have experience with tuning the factory trigger on CZ 457?

I am using it for high school hunter's safety competition that requires minimum trigger pull weight of 2.5 pounds. I would like to have it break an average of 2 pounds 10 oz, but the factory adjustment seems to bottom out at 3.0-3lb 2oz on mine. Is it supposed to go down lower from the factory? Is this a situation for the YoDave spring kit? Everyone says that one is for getting it way down around the 1 pound mark, which is obviously too low for my needs.

You should be able to reduce the trigger to 16-20 ozs with the factory spring.

TONS and TONS of references on Rimfire Central forum. That is where all the authoritative information on the topic can be found.

can't get the factory adjustment right? (it is not easy and takes a long while due to the multiple interactive adjustments and trial-and-error

Need to go lighter? this is probably what you are really looking for:

or just give in and buy the Jard or the Timney aftermarket options ($$)

I did some digging on Rimfire Central and others. I don't think I did the sear set screw first, which seems to be a critical first step. Everyone seems to be easily setting their triggers in the twos on factory springs.

Yes. It's a good bit of to-ing and fro-ing, since the three adjustments affect each other..

Getting the aftermarket little pin with the e-clip from that Joe guy does help.

I decided I was not patient enough for this work, and bought the Timney drop-in with the flat face.
I set it to 10 ozs., and that was that.

Two major problems I see with dropping in a Timney. #1: $200, #2: they top out at 2 pounds. If I send a kid into a competition with that, they are going to get DQed and we're all having a bad day.

If this wasn't for a competition with trigger weight requirements, I would absolutely love a Timney and I wouldn't mind the cost. I just wanted to get my factory trigger closer to the cutoff. It sounds like I need to go back through the factory adjustment process.

It should be possible with a lot of patients and adjusting. Like @mostly22lately said with the different screws having an effect on the pull weight it can be a real pain. That said, I had mine in the 2lb range with all factory parts. And for the most part it was a nice factory trigger. But I couldn’t leave well enough alone and got a Yo Dave kit. It made a huge difference with trigger travel and the break. After one range session I decided to tinker on it a little more. Now it has no take up or over travel. Put your finger on the trigger and at 12oz later the cleanest break you will ever feel, outside of a complete new after market trigger.

Edited to add: you should be able to achieve the pull weights required with the Yo Dave kit.
