CZ Bren - anyone?

Anyone have experience with this rifle? Or even the Bren 2? Thoughts? Opinions?

I have never fondled one, but have read about them quite a bit. Check out the CZ forums. If you are a real CZ fan then it seems they are worth grabbing. If not, you are probably not getting a big bang for your buck over an AR. You should buy one, hate it, and then sell it to me at a loss.

I'm a big fan of their handguns, but I've never handled one of their rifles. I primarily shoot AK's, and I do have a pretty plain AR...I considered building a different AR or doing an AK74 SBR...but then I got to thinking if I pump that much into something, I could also try something a little different.

It also looks like they'll be releasing a 7.62 NATO version.

The Bren 2 is significantly lighter and solved all the complaints of the Bren 1, and even the SCAR to a certain extent.

I lust for one.

Better trigger then the scar, but the ibe I had could not match the accuracy of my ar15's,

I shot the Gen 1 and it was a smooth shooter (likely due to the weight and operating system). I'd like to get one of the S2 pistols and Form 1 it. They are just SOOO expensive!

See that's my thing. I want to SBR an AK74, but the overall cost would be no different to me. After the '74 mags and cost for conversion, I'm looking at the same price. Considering this for something different.

I’d say go for it then. I’d definitely get the Bren 2. MAC has a good video on it. I’d love to try one out.

Nice shooting gun? We need more details! Give us a review, CD!
Here's the rifle I fired back in Feb this year, its another Czech Army gun. Its marked CZ 805 however. Gun had a red dot on top which was hitting at 100m. I only fired it semi and no full auto. Gun ran smooth, cases ejected as they should to the right front. Only fired 20 rds. Looking forward to hitting the range with the Bren 2 here for a better understanding of the gun.IMG_4789.JPG IMG_4783 rz.jpg .

Nice review CD! I actually love the look of that gun with the almost bronze upper and black lower/furniture.

Bren 1 “pistol” here. This thing is a ball to shoot, pretty dang accurate and very smooth.

Neat gun!
What handstop is that on the front bottom?

There have been several at ApexDefenseGroup classes and Ryan was talking about them this past Saturday. They have issues going band every time. I know one of the regulars has one and he brought it to a carbine class and it was a jammomatic. Fire one shot, jam, manually cycle fire two or three and ftf. He is now trying to sell it. They sure look good though. If you don't intend to actually practice and shoot them much they probably are a great conversation piece. But if you intend to shoot 500 rounds in a carbine class they do not seem to be the one to bring. Your mileage may vary. I'm sure some work good. One of the advantages of attending lots of classes is you see all types of gear and how they perform under stress.

That's the first I've heard of reliability issues with them. Did they try contacting CZ to get it returned and looked at?

You sure they’re talking about the Bren?

Yeah. Same here. Of the complaints on the Bren, reliability isn’t usually mentioned.

Yep, i believe so, but I pinged Ryan to verify. I do believe i am talking about the .308 version. That is what i was interested in because i brought it up as a option (I am looking for a .308) and the idea got squashed. But if i am wrong, I'll post back!

Yes, I was correct. Out of the three that have come through Apex classes two had issues. Whether that is a good sample size... that is for you to decide. The conversation came up because i asked about the .308 version being an option for me to purchase at some point and the issues with the 5.56 were brought up then.

I still think some lines are crossed somewhere.

The Bren has only been offered in 5.56, 300Blk and 7.62x39, but not .308. The Bren 2 will eventually be offered in .308, but probably not in 19’. The Bren 2 rifles haven’t made it to the states yet, but there are very few of the pistol versions floating around since their release a couple months ago.

I have a 805 Bren PS1 that I form one'ed: when they first came out in the rush to get it filed before 41P. I probably put a couple hundred rounds thru it. It is kinda heavy but shoots very smooth and fairly flat. Never did a carbine class with it but I have with a Beretta ARX 100 and in 400 plus rounds in that one day I had one Malf that was user induced. ARX balance is much better than the Bren 1 and weighs 1.5 lbs less, which is why I typically choose it over the Bren 1. When the Bren 2 comes out I am definitely going to buy one, but not able to decide to get 5.56 or 7.62x39
