Dallas officer goes home to wrong apartment, kills man inside

The truth here doesn’t matter ... a LEO shot a 28 year old black man in his own apartment. There will protests from every race spewing group from BLM to Al Sharpton to Shelia Jackson/Maxine Waters. The whole thing will go from what looks to me like a LEO making a major error and an innocent man died to the Police are killing black men.

While the officer’s identity and information haven’t been released I hope she is not white ... at least that would take the race card out of the deck for various groups to play.
You must not have read the article. The only thing they have said about her is that she is white.

So now we believe the MSM? when for everything else it's the devil as Bobby Buches's momma would say.

I would say that the reason you only hear this stuff is they rarely do follow up stories. I personally think there is more to this story and it might take more than 18-24 hours to figure it out and properly charge it.
I’m trying to wait and not get pissed off, but the article says nothing about what is being done with her other than that the department handed the investigation over to the Texas Rangers. Does that mean she isn’t even in county lockup for going into someone else’s home and killing them? Must be nice.

An innocent man was killed in his own home by an agent of the State who by any definition was trespassing at best or broke in at worst. I would hope anyone would hope any and all groups, of any race, would recognize the inherent danger to their Liberty such an act represents and be angry and unruly about it.

"Paid Administrative Leave."

Basically getting paid to sit at the house. The exact opposite of what would happen to you or me if we entered another's home and shot them dead.

I’m sure they’d keep all information about us out of the news as well.

Well, i can guarantee that she gets the maximum penalty allowed. She’s white. And Dallas doesn’t want to burn, so under the bus she goes.
Doesn’t matter what really happened, she can kiss it all goodbye. Or as the say in Texas, “adios”.

You’re spot on with the negligence of the LEO leading to the death of an innocent man likely sitting in his home until someone enters via some form, manual key, digital keypad or unlocked door, and shooting because she erroneously thinks the guy is in her apartment.

When you go to she was an agent of the State ... inherent danger to Liberty ... and so on and anger and unruly actions are okay we differ. She was off duty going home ... not on a call or such for the department. She did not enter that apartment under some form of police action ... she thought she was entering hers. From the small initial details she just outright messed up. Now what other factors may have contributed could be lost if BLM comes in screaming? Why did she think it was her apartment? Had she just worked too many straight shifts with extra overtime and was exhausted to the point she shouldn’t have even been on shift earlier that evening? Why did she draw and fire so quickly especially her being a LEO? Was she an affirmative action type hire? Mediocre training requirements?

The real questions here don’t need to be sweep away by militant groups screaming for her head when I’m guessing goes there might be a few others that need to be addressed.

I can't understand how someone mistakes someone else's home/apartment for their own. I'm guessing the door was unlocked or there was no way she would've gotten in short of breaking in. And then once in, wouldn't you immediately recognize that it wasn't your home?

Something doesn't make sense.

Well said sir.

I don’t see it in such stark terms. Said agent of the state was off work, going home, Oops kilt a man. This was not an official act like, say, a wrong address raid. This appears to be an individual person screwing the proverbial pooch. Let’s hope she’s treated that way. If she gets a GOOJF card I’ll be right there beside you with my torch and pitchfork.

I just don't have much faith in a system less interested in justice than protecting their own.

Dallas police seek manslaughter warrant against officer who killed neighbor

Notice the Texas Rangers are doing their own investigation and if the facts come out differently she will be charged according I'm sure. Based off the information they have given at this point I think that is a solid charge. but if anything comes back in her blood it will be upgraded.

People’s attitudes, habits, how they render judgement and general behaviors are the same whether at work or at home.

Do any of the excuses you offer make the killing of an innocent a simple mistake, in which the officer remains blameless? What if she worked a lot of night shift and overtime? I know people that work 72 hours+ a week on nights, for months at a time. If they wander into the neighbors house after work and kill them, does their hours on the job then become the justification? What if they thought they were in their house?

The most I’ve ever been awake was 54 hours straight when we were on station in 2003 at the start up of Iraqi Freedom. I can tell you, shit gets weird when you’re up for that long. You know what never happened? I didn’t mistake anyone else’s rack for mine(on a boat where they literally are almost identical), or the submarine for an aircraft carrier, or the Bahrain for Australia (or Pearl Harbor).

With regards to drawing and firing “so quickly,” that’s the common thread in almost every one of these incidents that’s driving a wedge between LE and the public at large - whether it’s the white dude in a hallway crying and begging for his life killed by a cop with “You’re F*#/3D” on the dust cover of his rifle or the one shooting a guy in the back Andrew planting evidence on the body in SC.

When you’ve convinced yourself the world is out to get you, as the police in this country have (the mountain of evidence to the contrary be damned), you get folks whose default setting is force.

She was in uniform when the shooting occurred according to the news. Doubtful anything is there, but not entirely impossible. Double screwed if there is.

So is it normal for someone that has gone into someone else’s home and killed them to not be taken to jail immediately?

It's not completely abnormal for people who cooperate with officers. Not that she had a choice on that part but it's not really talked about.

I never said she was blameless ... honestly I see Manslaughter but to what level as well as a few other things possibly ... my point is that the investigation needs to progress without a bunch of statements about a whit LEO killing an innocent black man only.

I really didn’t want to get in to deep into it but I’d like to she her record ... her training, past performance reviews, commendations & reprimands and so on. I have seen 2 departments be forced to cut physical requirements, training standards and so on to meet quotas. The way this shooting seems to have unfolded just makes me wonder about her abilities and such. If she was hired for numbers and appearance ... I gotta wonder when the next screwup is coming.

Unfortunately the quality recruits that the police received even 6 years ago have started going a different direction. You are absolutely correct that there are those people that you can simply look at and know it's just a matter of time. That said it's really not much different than regular people you meet and just know it's a matter of time.

I bet when the news of all this blows over, she will get some petty charge, moved to a different state and be a new cop again.

That thin yellow line protects their own, wether guilty or not, the us v them thing with cops.

I’ll say it again. Law enforcement hiring is not like it once was. They needed less of them, it was looked at as a professional, and they hired tougher guys, and training was not “shoot to eliminate the threat.” Now they hire a bunch of little chicken shit guys who feel big in uniform. Pay a little more and make better selections. But of course hiring in government is based on friends and relatives.

Bunch of scared badge wearing scared and jumpy people wear the blue. Glad I got a flight out of Dallas Wednesday before this incident. The madness in that city starts now.

I work in the system and have no affiliation with anyone. No relatives or friends helped me to the positions I have ever held. Simply doing my best and being willing to change helped me.

I’ve watched the hiring in the sheriff department in my county since the sheriff got elected. It’s been absolutely disgusting. As many may know or many do not know it’s been as corrupt as anything on the history of public office. It’s all been about friends and relatives with lawsuit after lawsuit, jail employees f*&king each other in boiler rooms, sheriff’s son running for office this year and placing tracking devices on ex girlfriends car, sheriff kicking SBI out of department with subpenos for his son, son indicted on multiple charges, campaign buddies getting promotions, and on and on and on.

There are good cops. Many are my friends. But I have had interactions and witnessed the most unprofessional LEO in the last 15 years. Did I mention the sheriff’s son ran for sheriff and it was discovered he had passed counterfeit 20 dollar bills at a store and lied about working for a department. The Hickory Police never even charged the sheriff’s son/sheriff candidate. As the captain of the drug team many busted people say the amount recovered did not match the amount of money at the busted locations. Yeah- I don’t trust the SOBs.

And still about a 1000% better than the "good ole days".

I can actually see the circumstances that could have led up to this. Long shift, tired. High rise apartment where everything looks the same. Get off in the wrong floor, early, because someone else was getting off there. Blindly follow the same pattern she follows every day and it all looks the same as every other floor. She fumbles trying to get in what shr thinks is her apt. and she's confused as to why she can't get in. When suddenly the door opens and a stranger is standing there at contact distance, wondering what the hell she's doing, maybe he's agitated. She was startled, she was confused. She went into panic mode, bang!
Many "accidents" happen in the get home mode. In flight, they call it "get backitis". Most mountaineering accidents happen on the descent coming back. One reason is that's when people let their guard down. They're not as careful and not as alert. They're almost home.
I say this not to excuse her, because ultimately, she is responsible and should have been more aware. But, I can see how it could happen. Bad all over.
Personally, when I come home is one of my most alert times, especially if I'm coming home to an empty house.

Just my .02

You carry a gun, you have responsibility for the actions taken with it. That’s the bottom line. If someone walks around in terrified mode all the time, maybe they don’t really need to carry a gun. Maybe they need a shatterproof, bulletproof bubble to protect themselves. I’ll watch the next couple days but she should have went to jail and had a bond just like required of all other non officer individuals. It’s not like a shooting while on duty. Eventually she got a charge but because she was a cop there were no charges based on the story at the scene. This is one of the reasons the public has no respect for LEO.

This is one of the reasons the public has no respect for LEO.

That might be overstating it a bit. I think most people still respect the badge and what it represents. You have a vocal minority that have been stirred up by some agitators. Hiring people because of their ethnicity vs. their competency and skills has eroded their profession somewhat. I support them, respect them, and I think most people do.

What do you believe it represents? Asking honestly.

A big issue I see is what if the situation were reversed? Do you really think it would be handled, even initially, as it was with administrative Leave? No. The guy would have been face planted, hauled off, and probably brutalized in the slammer for killing one of their own. His family would be stalked. We’d be hearing about how a glorious hero was mercilessly gunned down. Ok, maybe I am laying it on thick, but the point stands. And that folks, is what is offensive and is the sauce that makes cop hate.

Absolutely feel the same on that point- and your comment made me stop and think- all the strategic advantages I have if I'm inside the house, defensive cover, escapes, etc can be used against me when its me that's coming in.

I don’t really care that LEOs treated another LEO like a cop at the scene of a shooting. That’s normal behavior I would expect to happen 100% of the time. I care about the end result and that’s looking good right now.

All of that is cold comfort to that dead man's family. Are we not to expect more of somebody that took an oath to serve these people?

I think all of this is evidence that people aren't meant to live in cookie cutter apartments.
