Just received a call from the dealership where we bought a car a few month back. The lady said that had seen the maintenance light was on, Ivtild her we had already made a appointment with a closer dealership to get the general service done. Didn’t think about it until I hung up but why in the hell should they be monitoring my car.
When that free shot over I’m not paying for it anymore. Probably doesn’t make any difference, it probably still monitors the car to see my driving habits. They hit me, I’m the one telling friends and family not to put those little things in their cars from the insurance company’s. They say they will get you a discount for “Safe Driving” I believe it’s in their to monitor your driving habits so they can deny a claim.

What Toyota Entune do you pay for? Entune is just their infotainment software name. Unless you figure out how to disconnect the communication, they’ll always be able to mine your data.

I’m pretty stupid when it comes to these things. I know the entune GPS and maybe the drivers assist steering/CC may run through it. All I know is it will be 8 bucks a months when the free stuff runs out. I won’t know what ever things is until it stops working:)

Hmmm. I have a 2016 and 2018 Toyotas, the only monthly service kind of thing was for XM Sirius. My 18 has the passive “Toyota Safety Sense”, maybe the active one, the one that will steer you back into your lane, actually has a fee. I had no idea and never want that anyway. But GPS is free, our tax dollars paid for that long ago.

I get the emails for both my wife's and my Toyota's when service is coming due or past due.

They're installing telematics in everything. We've got systems in forklifts that record the operator's speed, when their certificate runs out (the truck won't turn on for them), time in the seat, time lifting/lowering, when they clock in/out, if they have an impact it records the g force of the vertical or horizontal impact and emails/texts supervisor(s) immediately, service work orders, cost per operating hour, etc, etc. I don't want it on my car.

Did t know all that was happening. It’s my wife’s car so I’m rarely in it. She loves the voice command stuff, radar CC and being able to crank access anything on the car from her phone. She won’t let anyone but me drive it. If she would let my daughter drive it she could set all kinds of parameters of the car. Like speed, distant from the house, radio usage and a bunch of other stuff I don’t understand.

Gm has been doing it for several years with Onstar as well. Onstar can remotely take control of a vehicle and control vehicle functions and has been done to stop a theif in a stolen car in some cases.
