I have a Norinco SKS that the previous owner modified. I would like to return this to it's original state, but need help finding some parts. (I will upload pics later).

It has an aftermarket detachable magazine and some sort of aftermarket receiver cover. I have the original magazine, but no receiver cover. Where can I buy an original receiver cover?

Honestly, in the end you'll likely be in it for less to buy one that hasn't been bubba'd.

Is that due to modification of the stock to allow for the detachable magazine that this gun has? I was hoping that I could just put a standard receiver cover on this one and be done, but if the previous owner had to chop up the stock I could see that being more than its worth to find an original stock.

Is it taking the "duckbill magazines like so:

If it is, it's likely they didn't make any modifications, though not a sure thing. I missed the part where you already have the original magazine. That's the expensive part- they're going for about $50-$100 depending on when and where you can find them.
Just take out the aftermarket and see if the original magazine will still fit. If yes, you're good to go. If not, you're going to have to spend more money.

Dust/receiver cover is $30 from Liberty Tree, but it could be any make or condition:

Apex has "good" ones for $37:

Yes, its the duckbill type. It only came with (1), it's metal and horribly unreliable. I am hoping that the original magazine makes the gun run better. Thanks for the link. I'll check them out.

I took them plastic mags and added some epoxy to the bottom of the latch on the mag, made them tighter in the rifle and made mine very reliable.....

As you can see above, this thing is a nightmare in regards to cheek weld or lack thereof. So, a new cover is what I was looking for. Thanks again for the links

My SKS came with a smaller version of that metal magazine. It's atrocious. It only had a 5 or 6 round capacity, and after firing the first two rounds, it would misfeed every time. The problem is the follower and the spring...if you look at yours with the mag empty, I bet the follower is all cockeyed, which pushes the rounds up unevenly.

I bought three 30-rd Promags, and all work great. One of them stovepiped one spent round, but aside from that, I've had no issues. I found a 10-round box magazine as well and use that probably 80% of the time as I find myself reloading the Promags from stripper clips anyway.
