Decided to publish a layman's opinion on LinkedIn re trackers

Interesting article and good job on yer weight loss man!

I posted a related question on MFP.
Got some pretty interesting replies.
One person said that after the company offered prizes and bonuses for participating in a fit tracker program, employees were reporting 6 figure steps each week. The winners were overheard bragging about just shaking the wrist the right way or putting the trackers on their dogs.
One person said their company dropped a similar plan because it cost more than it saved.
Getting employee discounts at gym don't cost the company anything and encourages some.
In a free country, the people don't take well to coercion.
Fun fact. Japan requires every employer to measure the waistline of every employee. The company is fined for each male employee that measures over 33" and every women who measures over 35". Employees who fail the measurement are required to undergo remedial fitness and diet education.

My former place of employment had a “robust” health competition game. from biggest loser to most steps, they gave away some serious swag. Nintendo Wii, fancy wrist gadgets, even an Apple Watch. It was rumored that one or two of the steps winners attached the device to their dog that stays outside all day. Whatevs. If you make it a “game,” then people will treat it as such.

My beef is, like any health thing in America, only one slice of our health “pie” is getting attention. Mental health is flat-out ignored and treated as taboo. I tried to get the Dave Ramsey workplace edition offered at work since finanacial ignorance and the stress associated with it are productivity killers—nevermind the impact to the employee’s life! That got re-jeck-ted. But we’ve got a stupid health program (that costs three times as much as the Dave Ramsey program).

I digress...
