Driving home last evening northbound on NC 58 between US 64 and Castalia. Driving speed limit and low beams on. Suddenly, ahead, two horses in the road. Fortunately, they were moving right to left (from our lane into the southbound lane) and I was able to slow down and swerve around them. They didn't really run: they just seemed incommoded by having to move! :)

But thanks be to God that we avoided a collision.

Horse/car collisions are horrible. I've seen two in my lifetime, one was a friends horse that had to be shot because no vets were available quick enough to put it down and it was suffering.

Used to work with a guy from Vermont. He showed me photos from several car vs moose collisions....moose will kill you dead.

Been to several cars vs critters over the years. Horses aren't good, especially when they are attached to a drag racing Amish buggy.

Ay-yup. Lived about 10 years all-together in NH and VT. Those "I Brake for Moose" bumper stickers are for-real.

A little ironically, perhaps, we were on our way home from Mass, so doubly thankful. And thanks, all, for the well wishes.
