Did You Go Shooting Today

Put a couple of hundred rounds through my Fusion Reaction 1911, and tried to get my Dan Wesson Valor to behave. I think I'm going to bump the recoil spring from 10lbs to 11.

What bullet weight do you shoot? 185? 200?

Just wondering.

Mine have 15 lb springs

That was at 100 yards. I shot a handful of worse groups before that. I was messing around with different rear bags and my body position at the bench. I finally got comfortable and got dialed in pretty well. That was with Hornady Black 123g ammo. Harris bipod and just a little rear bag.
Wow, nice shootin my friend. That part about "getting comfortable" is way more important than most folks realize.

Sorry, I should have mentioned. Both pistols are 9mm. The Fusion runs a 12lb recoil spring and runs great. The Wesson came with a 10lb spring and has had a few failures to go into battery when running "on the clock" so I'll try a slightly heavier spring.

As I told the helpful guys at the range, I don't know what I don't know. Just trying to be a sponge for now. And have fun doing it.

I’ll briefly cover my experience from today.

I did a “force on force” event which was not an instructed “class”, it was held by a friend that rented the facility and invited 10-12 people.

We ran 6-7 scenarios that covered things from a “home invasion” to a “stick up” in a diner, the whole thing was very intense and eye opening for most of us.

You find yourself forced to actually go through the motions of the “well thought out plans” of how you think you would handle a situation in real life, I found myself following through with some of those actions, some worked extremely well and “saved my life”, others got me shot in the face.....

If any of you get a chance to do one of these types of events DO IT!! Even if it is an informal gathering of friends, because even though you know you’re not going to get “gun shot” you’ll find yourself rethinking your tactics after you take a few sim rounds to the chest (or arms, legs, elbows, hands) because they sting a bit, take a few rounds to the hands and they flat out hurt, even through shooting gloves! I wore 3 layers of clothing on my upper body and 2 on my lower body and still walked away with a dozen welts, I went from “Rambo” running in with guns blazing to a MUCH more practical approach very quickly, pain has a way of reminding you that most of your ideas about gunfights are, well pretty friggin stupid.

How and where was this organized? I assume you rented a range and equipment. I would really like to do something similar.

Got to ride the bike to the range, double down on taking advantage of the weather. Just to be weird, I brought my first (now vintage?) gun to the range to knock some of the dust off it:

And then to move on from weird to full on freaky, dropped this in:

Yea, period correct 357 sig conversion barrel. Only had a hand full of 357 sig, but it seemed to have less muzzle flip but way more muzzle blast than 40. It's been so long since I've actually touched off any 357 sig (or 40 really) that it was hard to be objective. Gotta say though, 40 and 357 knock down the plates with more authority than 9mm.... but I'll stick with 9.

Wanted to confirm the zero on the CZ 527 (204 Ruger) and the Savage Axis II (6.5 CM). The CZ has a crappy Nikon Buckmaster on it (maybe good for deer hunitng but lacks in target shooting) and the Savage has a Sig Wiskey III.

Once confirmed the zeros, took the guns to the 500 yard range and started with the CM. 300, 400 and 500 yards dead center. Someone put a steel target in shape of a man behind the 500 yard circle steel. Friend said shoot it. In the neck hit. The dope on the scope was dead on with the ballistic calculator. My friend want to shoot the CZ after shooting 1/2 MOA at 100 yards. Dial in the scope and had to add 2.5 MOA to hit the steel @ 300 and 3.5 to hit the steel at 400. Either my velocity is off by a bunch or the scope adjustments are 1/8 MOA.

There was never a more beautiful day. Lotsa shooting, lotsa talking, good company, apple pie and ice cream for all. Also, all the rifle targets have been replaced with new ones and the old ones put up as range decoration to show what 10 years of rifle fire looks like. Wish all of our CFF shooters could have been here.

A friend of mine ranted out the Forcetec facility in Cleveland NC, he invited enough people to help cover the rental cost which included the protective gear, 6 pistols and a box of 50 sim rounds.

You can call them and get pricing.

I intended to go to the range yesterday, but ended up just hanging out with an old friend of mine. We hung out in my reloading shack, and I showed him how to operate a Dillon 550. When I was dropping him off at his place, his son was getting ready to set up a target so he could zero his scope, so I tagged along. Got to shoot a few rounds with his gun, his ammo, and I got to keep the brass. No guns to clean. :D It was a win-win.

We flew in and out of Vegas when visiting family in Commifornia last week. Since we were in Vegas, we decided to stop by the Battlefield Vegas. My son shot the MG42 and I shot the M60. It was a little pricey but it sure was a lot of fun.

I ment to say a box of 50 sim ammo per shooter.

We should get a forum group going!! I believe 12 is the maximum due to the amount of gear they have and honestly any more than that would start to make things a bit crowded.

The guy that hosted our event charged us $75 per shooter to cover the facility and props he made, he made fake wallets, fake cell phones, an ATM & cash register etc, having the props prevent you from having to use your personal stuff which might get dropped or thrown and many of the props did in fact get tossed around.

Yes! Shot some with my SR22 and then worked with the CZ P07 a bit. It still hates MaxxTech. Everything else has been perfect. Shot some mags all DA. Trying to stage the trigger produced some fliers, but when I gripped the gun as hard as I could and plowed through the heavy DA trigger I got better results. I tried to shoot as quickly as I could decock and line up sights again.

Shot a 100 through my CZ 75 SP-01. 2nd time it's been to the range and man am I enjoying it. Also brought a few revolvers with me, an air light 38 and a model 66. Threw a few 357's through the 66 for good measure.
Now I'm sad since my range will be closed for the next two months :(

I'm sorry about your range!

(If I had gotten a membership at my hometown range, I'd invite you out here, but sadly, I haven't got the text inviting me to join.....sigh....)

Not today but went to FLD with my oldest daughter to shoot some pistol (9mm and AR) and rifle Saturday. Only the third time shooting my AR pistol (and her first) and this is her 50 yd target

8CB40181-40B6-457A-859C-5BC4EDE1BC09.jpeg

Most of the shots outside the first box are from her learning how to shoot with a RDS. Looks like the AR pistol (and her) are keepers.

Then went to the 500 yd range, where 2 guys that were occupying the two benches gave one up for us. I’ll say it again, most people that shoot are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. I’ve shot my AR on the 500 yd range enough, so I let her do most of the shooting. Other than one miss at the 400 yd target (due to her using the wrong hash on the Strike Eagle), she hit with every other shot (probably around 70).

Shot at H20 today.

Dan Wesson Valor1911 in 9mm. Gonna sell it.
Friend's M&P 2.0 9mm - Great shooter but the ergos don't work as well as this one...
Starkherz199's G17 match blaster. It's a keeper.

I want a small canon for our mountian place. Then I can aim it either right to the top of the drive way off the 2nd floor deck or maybe down the hill. Gotta cover all the angles. Maybe I need 2.
The echoes from a cannon up there would be wonderful. @charliedeltajuliet could fire back and keep it going. You guys could summon Thor!

Another round thru the green SA. 142 rounds today, 378 since returning from Springfield for the loose ejector, 1308 total. Couple hundred more and time to switch guns for the next 1k rounds.

Only failure has been from the loose ejector at about round 900 something.

When to the range to see how much off my scopes and ballistic calculator is. Made sure the they were zeroed at 100. From what I can tell, do not true the reloading manuals velocities.

First gun was a Savage MK II 22. Took it to the 200 yard steel and aimed 2 feet high was 2 feet short. Had to go about 3 feet high and hit steel regularly. Tried 300 and it was a joke. I had no idea where the rounds where landing.

Next up was the AR-15 with a Nikon P223 scope. BC said 1.5 MOA adjustment @ 200 yards. I had to go to 2.00 MOA. Then to 300. BC said 4.1 MOA and had to go to 6.25 to be in the center of the steel. Now the BC data I was using 55 FMJ data and shooting 55 SPs at 2900ft/sec per Hornady manual.

I guess I need to start chronoing my loads.

Last gun I thought was the 6.5 CM. When to load a round and the bolt would not close. WHAT THE HELL! I grabbed the 308 rifle instead of the 6.5

I am starting to carry the Walther PPS and headed to the pistol range and loaded all 3 magazine and shot pretty fast at a piece of wood @ 25 yards and was hitting it or within a couple of inches around the wood.

We have evening church services only now so i was able to go this morning.
Broke my pf9, still can't hit anything with my G19
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
