Did You Go Shooting Today

I was just being Captain Obvious for a moment. :) I've never seen that on paper, either, and never thought one would be able to see the rifling twist in the powder burns.
Ive seen it one other place, but thats a story for sittin around the firepit, not cyberspace. Truck is packed and Im leaving soon as the kid gets on the bus. Maybe I'll see it today. I do that same drill every time I go :)

Stopped and bought some targets on the way, hit the range at about 8:15. As always, it was a beautiful morning to sling lead and I had the place all to myself. One other person showed up about 30 minutes before I left, but he went up to the rimfire range and we left each other alone.

Today was a large function test on various things for me.
Sighted in the irons and red dot on the M&P 15-22 I got my son for his birthday and ran 25 rounds through it to test function. I'll get him behind it real soon.
Put ten shells through my new 20ga Shockwave to test function and check pattern at a couple distances. Just happened to have some 2 3/4" #3 Buckshot laying around, so I used it. Seems to work just fine lol.
I cleaned and did maintenance on my Griffin Rev 9 last night, so I took it and the Scorpion out to verify zero. No adjustments needed, it held zero exactly where it was lol. Ran 50 rounds of the home defense jhps through it to test feeding.
No issues with any of them.

Wifes has put 500 fmjs through her VP9sk and wants to start carrying it, so I put 50 jhps through it to make sure it would feed and cycle. No issues at all and I'm comfy with her carrying it now.
I put 50 jhps through my G48 for the same reason. I now have a carry option when Im in shorts with no belt and need something lighter than my P-01 lol.

And, lastly, I put 200 rounds of some reman 230gr fmj through my new CZ97BD.

Smooth as butter, nice trigger for stock, accurate as I need it, and very soft shooting.
Why did I wait so long to get one?
I'm in love lol

CZ yummy-ness, and nice shooting!

I went and shot (and washed the outside of the care takers house) today. It was all good for me. But not for the guy on the rifle range.

I was behind my vehicle putting together stuff to wash the care takers house when I heard a loud explosion (not a normal round sound) I look up and see a guy on the rifle range bending over and see the rifle in two pieces. I make it over there and he was ok, but the rifle not so much. Still not quite sure what happened, but the case in the chamber you could not even see because the rod (can not remember correct name) was stuck. A round in the magazine went off. Blew the top and bottom of the magazine out (bottom mag plate was blown out) that you could not release it from the lower. Apparently the guy was able to get the rod out part of the back of the case was missing. This was LC 223 rounds factory. The round in the magazine that went off still had a good primer so it went off I am guessing from heat. Messed things up that's for sure.

This is not my rifle. We found pieces up to 30 feet away.

Over charge, bore obstruction or a .300 Blackout round made its way into the chamber would be my guess.

Looks like the what is left of the bolt carrier is still in the forward (chambered) position. I does almost look like a round in the mag went off, but I can't imagine how that could happen.

When an over pressure happens in a KaBoom like this. Gas is directed down into the magazine throught the back/bottom of the Bolt Carrier. It can disassemble the ammo like above. Would love to see what is in front of the bolt and the case. Also interested if there is a bore obstruction or .30 cal bullet swaged down and stuck inside the .224 bbl. This is why I do not like the .300 Blackout round. Only takes one round to get mistakenly chambered and fired, KABOOM! Some one could have swap rounds in the box at the store. Pay attention to your rounds when loading.

Exactly why I have resisted 300 BLK.

Yep sure did. Jeppo and I went pt PHA and burned some powder. Good shooting until my BCM ar peeled the rim off a round of tula trying to extract. Didn't have my cleaning rod so the show was over. Luckily it was near the end anyways. Came home and it came out easy.

Compliments to the videographer.

Need to stand on your tip toes, camera angle is a little low :D
It's seriously difficult when David is trying to photograph Goliath. ;)

Took both boys to the gun club today. Blasted a bunch of (my) ammo. Rimfire, centerfire pistol, and centerfire rifle. Fed them $80 worth of lunch. ( Gotta fatten 'em up), and sent them home with ammo. ...and one with a 1911.

So... I'm an enabler.

Put 50rds through my Glock 43 this morning. It still works.

It still works.
And will continue. This is my very prob. I am leaving in a little and as always there will be 2 G43s in my pockets. Each with 9 rounds. I have total confidence in them and my ability to use them. I just can't make the Leap to the 43X or the other thing..48?

FIFY ;)

Went to the range with my 1895 Winchester open sights BIG Medicine. To make sure my reloads were on the money. @Toprudder and another shooter bought their toys too. This is what happens when 2214 fps 3.6 SD and a 300 gr bullet hits steel at 100 yards. :) Topprudder did really well with his little little itty bitty teeny tiny 223 rounds at 300 yards. But he didnt do this:
0518191657.jpg@Toprudder dance with the steel and I man handle and broke the steel after 3 shots. Great day at the range!!!!

Shooting at dprc today .100 rounds through Glock 17 100 rounds through a Glock 34. Shooting at my cardboard plate rack trying to get ready for the next Glock match. The faster I go the slower I get. Still trying to win that pistol.

No, I didn’t break any steel. But you certainly seemed entertained while I put on a show hitting the steel at 300 yards. :D

I did find out that after about 20-25 rounds, the groups open up from about 1 moa to 3 moa.

@Toprudder I am having a similar issue and just ordered an AR receiver lapping tool and some 600 grit lapping compound from Brownells and plan to "bed" the barrel into the upper with LockTite as shown in this video. I don't know if it will work, but for the money, it's something else to play with. I just have to be careful of headspace.

Let me know how that turns out. In my mind, that should not affect the headspace.

Visitors today included the great southern raconteur GUNBELT. Honestly his name needs to be spelled like that. Fine shooter and a great guest for any occasion. PLUS, he came bearing gifts!!!! Also, CFFer Smack showed for the First time today. A fine lad of Greek ancestry and a builder of some of the finest handling 1911s we have had the pleasure of shooting. His trigger work is as good as Armand Swenson. Geezer and Garvin ate brownies and behaved well with our new guest.
All in...another fine day at The Battery Oaks. I'm afraid the heat is about ready to set in. Still thankful to be living in a shooter's paradise.
Oldbear scheduled for a few days in the Bunk House this week. Wish you could all swing by more often...see ya'll soon!!!!!

Any time you want to have a look at my grip, let me know, I'll be there! Lol. Regards to Oldbear.

Yes, @Smack was a first time visitor today. A very pleasant fellow with some outstanding examples of his 1911 wizardry. Looking forward to him coming back next time. And, he also said he would cook us some Greek food.

I wish @gunbelt could be there every week. Curt would make Mark Twain feel very inadequate when it comes to telling tales and spinning yarns. And, he can turn out some fine leatherwork, too.

Billy mentioned that Curt came bearing gifts. He had heard that RS was hinting around that she wanted a mink coat. So, Curt brought her a mink coat starter kit.
