I have an AR10 .308 that sports a Vortex PST 6-24x50 (2nd focal plane). The rifle is relatively new to me, but I had the scope on a bolt gun for the last couple years.

Tonight I picked up a Savage FCP-SR 6.5CM, 24" heavy (not bull) barrel that will need glass.

For those of you with multiple long-ish range guns, do you try to buy the same optic for each or are you okay with changing up reticles, eye relief, eye box, etc?

Both of these guns serve the same purpose really, bench/position shooting at the range. The 6.5CM may ultimately see longer distances, but realistically I don't shoot much past 300yds.

I have always tried to maintain some commonality when it comes to glass. That way I know what to expect and how it will react. Example, if I'm building a LW 308 woods gun I'll stick to the Nikon BDC line usually in a 3x9 or 4x12 and mount it as low as possible. If it's strictly a bench gun I'll go to a higher power with AO but still of the same Nikon or Leupold.

Like BB said. He gives good advice. I tend to lean the way of if they serve the same function, they get the same glass.

I have used a variety of different scopes over the years and have come to like certain models for specific applications. My practice now is "same application-same scope: different application-different scope." I like to set up and sight in all the rifles I have for the same application so that they all work the same.

I have a different power, measurement, and type of scope on every gun. No joke. I like being confused everytime I touch a different rifle.
