I had an RL450, purchased many years ago and upgraded to 550 with their kit about 2004. Countless rounds came from the press.... .44, .45LC, .45acp, 45-90, 44-40, .357. The press got sloppy loose lately. Ram wobbled in frame, auto prime continually malfunctioned. Boxed it up and sent to Dillon, knowing it would be repaired no charge, other than what the shipping cost me to AZ. That was eleven days ago. FedEx delivered a box this morning containing a NEW RL550C.

……. Awesome...…. I didn't know you could actually wear one out!

Yep. But I broke most of mine from time to time, and many times MY FAULT, and TOLD them so. Their response, "Don't Matter, Sending New anyway, that's our Policy"............. Just an incredible company.

whats the difference between the 650 vs 750xl vs 1050?

I received the XL750 promo email from Dillon today. I have been thinking about upgrading from my aRL550B to the XL650 for a while now. Dillon has done gone and made things more cornfusing. I'd really like to know all of the differences between the 650 and 750 and whether or not the 650 is going away.

It doesn’t look like the 650 is on their website, so if you like it I’d move fast.

I like the priming on the 650 better than the priming on the SDB, it seems more robust. What’s the 550 priming system like?

If I'm not mistaken, the priming system on the RL550B/C is a linear system similar to the priming system on the XL 750.

I agree with your comments about the SDB. I stepped up to the RL550B from the SDB back around 2000.

(Edited: Changed 650 to 750 which is what I meant to type)

550 primer feed is a single primer out of the tube taken by a slider to the primer seating ram for each round.
650 primer feed is a rotary disc that takes several primers to "prime" the process, so to speak, and you have to drain it after. The switch to the 550 system is a plus in my book. But I won't ditch my 550 or 650 in the forseeable future.

I agree about the 550 priming system, I've had very little trouble with it. The only time I did have trouble, it was my fault. On one of the other forums, opinions are mixed about the 550 <> 650 priming systems, though. The 550 system is very easy to work on, and I can change primer sizes on my press in 60 seconds.

Sounds like the SDB and 550, and now the 750, all share the same priming system.

They discontinued the 650 according to the Dillon rep I spoke to yesterday

There is a brand new 650 sitting in the back room at Little Hardware if anyone prefers the older technology.
