DirecTV withdrawal from new satellites

Or do they have enough satellites to satisfy the projected demand? Do the satellites need to be replaced every 20 years or something? If not, there has to be an end point.

DTV is far from done...

But you’ll see AT&T push Osprey in the very near future. It’s pretty slick.

And they’ve met their quota of fiber to customers that was part of the DTV purchase, so OTT is definitely the future.

What's osprey? I've got them installing fiber Saturday morning. I was concerned about price after the 12 months but the representative said that because we are bundling the price locks in for 999 months. I have no idea if that's you know true or not.

Osprey is a set top box deal they have that is going to be somewhat similar to Roku or some of the other devices? You’ll have multiple apps but won’t need to search them one at a time for something. Voice powered. Stuff transfers from phone to TV. All kinds of neat stuff. Saw a quick demo a couple weeks ago.

You can search “AT&T Osprey” and find a little info out there.

I searched it and it looks pretty awesome.

DTv is also in the process of decommissioning SD feeds from their birds, supposed to take a couple of years iirc...
Really causing issues with the sat-fed entertainment in hospitality.
Speculation is to make room for 4K content.
